I read it because I liked the characters. I liked Polly and Huckle. Huckle's cottage... even after he moved out of it into the lighthouse with Polly I still held that image in my mind when his character turned up.
But this last installment in the Little Beach Street Bakery series was a royal disappointment. Polly and Huckle have the same sort of miscommunication and trust issues that almost leads to a break-up in the same tone, timing, and resolution as the first few books. There are more story lines to be had! More ways couples can have issues! I wish there had been a bit more imagination thrown at that plotline; instead it felt like an obligatory issues-in-the-relationship situation so there could be the big romantic make-up scene.
I did not like the story line about the best friend perhaps getting knocked up by a one-night stand. I liked it even less when it all magically worked out because of a hereditary birthmark the baby had that her husband also had. I know these books are meant to be lighthearted and charming but come on... that was a reach. I had been curious to know how that was going to be resolved (because OF COURSE the baby was her husband's, I mean, this is a happy book!) but I was disappointed at the choice.

Lovely Christmassy read!
When you reach a point in a book where you find yourself asking "What am I reading?", it's time to walk away. The prologue where she informed the reader about a backstory event involving a side character's affair was a red flag that I wasn't going to like this book. . There were so many plot points from the jump and not one of them had to do with the synopsis on the book jacket. Also Reuben is the WORST!! How is this a Christmas classic when one of the main side characters is the biggest a**hole to everyone?

Perhaps because I picked up the last book of a trilogy, I found this only mildly entertaining. As a stay-at-home parent, I can relate to having a job that continues 24 hours a day. Because of this, I don’t find it terribly relaxing to read about a main character who labors 24 hours a day without being paid much for her efforts.
This was a cute fluff read. I was looking for something that wouldn't be overly taxing on my brain or my emotions but still wanted something with characters I could engage in - this book fit the bill. I would say if you're looking for something not overly complicated that you could read whilst curled up on the couch during a rainstorm, this would be it.
The third and last in the trilogy 🙁 love the little beach street bakery and the lighthouse and the puffin. Just cozy and fun and feels like comfort food as I read.
