loved the friends to lovers trope, although Colin’s anger bothered me quite a bit, especially with the way he went about expressing it.

This is the first book I've read for the new year, and as someone coming out of a long reading slump, I found it easy to understand and engage with. It also helps that I watched the tv show based on this book to prepare for this book's adaptation, so it was a lot easier to picture most of the characters in the book.

Now for the book itself, I found it fast-paced, enjoyable, and addicting enough that I'm ready to move onto the next one. Is it predictable and cliche in terms of tropes? Yes. But sometimes cliche is what we need to get ourselves through the day and through rough slumps. After all, who doesn't love a good friends to lovers story (or in this case, my best friend's brother to lover)?

Despite this book being about Lady Whistledown and her reveal it wasn’t that extravagant or shocking. I would’ve loved to see it be more dramatic but despite that it wasn’t horrible. I enjoyed reading the snarky comments of Penelope Featherington and seeing how mischievous her and Colin became when they started to spend time together more often. Despite him breaking her heart with the declaration of never marrying her, she never stopped seeing him and I applaud her for that. However, I would’ve loved for Colin to grovel for Penelope’s attention. The tiktoks I’ve seen made it seem like it was going to be the “I’ll teach you about love while falling for you” trope when it wasn’t like that. It was two people who were friends become more and I didn’t hate it. I also LOVED seeing how obsessed Colin was with Pen even deciding on the carriage ride to marry her only for him to have sex with her and having to speed up the wedding date so the ton don’t get suspicious if she was with child. It may not be dramatic like the rest of the series but it was such a palate cleanser I didn’t like the trope of them getting caught and having to marry or with Benedict’s story were he tried to make Sophie his mistress. The reveal of Lady Whistledown was both a let down and adorable because I wanted it to be grand but I loved reading how the Bridgertons all got Penelope’s back despite them being in her papers it was a sweet gesture seeing that they care so much for her.

TikTok does lie a bit cause I expected the mirror scene to be major like the carriage but it was just a line that Colin said of him wanting to do it in front of a mirror not them actually doing it in front of a mirror. Still that carriage scene was spicy despite them not actually doing it.
