Grew up reading these books! My favorites were The Queen of the Damned and Tales of the Body Thief. The Vampire Lestat was a snore fest.

Interview with the Vampire⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Vampire Lestat⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Queen of the Damned⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Vampire Chronicles Collection by Anne Rice includes the first three novels in the series.

Interview with the Vampire, Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned .

The trilogy of novels are beautifully written and explicitly queer. Sensual and intensely erotic, this series reads like a study on the senses. If you love Vampire and lgbtqaa+ fiction these novels would be perfect for you.

The Interview with the Vampire is a beautifully written novel that dives into the realm of the senses. Interview With the Vampire is
Sensual, erotic, thought-provoking, and mesmerizing. It makes sense why this novel, as well as its two sequels in this collection, is considered a classic. The novel is explicitly queer and filled with diversity.

The Vampire Lestat is a incredible
sequel/prequel he artfully displays Ann Rices writing capabilities and incredible world building. The Vampire Lestat details the origin of the queer icon himself from list French revolution to 1980's US.

The Queen of the Damned is a epic conclusion to the original Vampire Chronicles trilogy Detailing the original of Akasha, The Queen of the Damned, and her rise to Godhood in the 1980s, this novel is a thought-provoking joyride from start to finish

It makes since why Anne Rice was a hero for so many, she was  fearlessness to be herself and have minorities represented in all their awsomeness..

To begin with, most vampire stories aren't my cup of tea. I'm glad I read it, because Anne Rice's vampires are foundational. And I understand that they are supposed to be evil and do wicked things etc etc. But even with that, I am not a fan.

Clearly the whole thing with Claudia in Interview is supposed to be effed up. And it is understandable that someone who is stuck in a 6 year old body but is over 50 would struggle with it. And it is clearly meant to be uncomfortable that sexual things happen. That, while again, not my thing at least makes sense in terms of the story and is part of the central conflict even though it gives me the ick.

In the Vampire Lestat, I get that he's supposed to be an unreliable narrator and so the fact that literally everyone from the village boy to the queen of the vampires falls in love with him can be taken with a grain of salt. I also get that pretty much all the vampires are bi and extremely sexual bc hey, they live forever, may as well try anything once. But wtf is with his incestuous relationship with his freaking mom? How is that in any way necessarily?
Also, practically everyone is "my beloved xyz" all the time. And he's just annoying.

The Queen of the Damned was much more interesting probably bc of the various points of view. But Akasha's whole "kill all the men as there will be no more issues" schtick was stupid. And then the climax where she dies is so anticlimactic. Like, they are having a summit about what to do, Akasha shows and tries to get them on her side, and then just when there may be a fight the missing twin shows up and decapitates her.

At last I have finished!
These three books took a lot longer to finish than I thought they would.
I was originally drawn in because I love the Interview with the Vampire film and had a few people rave about the books. Maybe it was over hyped so my expectation were too high.
I struggled to rate this chronicle collection because some parts I enjoyed and others I absolutely hated and almost gave up on reading.
All three books are tedious to read and slow to progress, with sections that added -what I believe-nothing to the story. Constant run on sentences, sentences that went on for entire paragraphs, and parts that sounded like Yoda had written it! Maybe it’s just not my preferred style of writing as other people seem to enjoy it.

As it was the last one I read I’ll talk about Queen of the Damned. Definitely my least favourite. I felt it was a whole bunch of nothing until the very end where it tried to fit in what could have been an entire other book. So many repetitions of information that were completely unnecessary, only adding to the tediousness of the story, I think we understand Khayman was the royal steward you don’t need to tell us 50 times in the chapter. The whole Baby Jenks chapter? I can’t even describe how much I hated that, I was so so close to giving up on reading it but I’ve only ever given up on a book once and that was when I was 12.
There were points where the writing just got lazy. “The eyes were really brown.” Wow great description. “She like to flew up the stairs.” That doesn’t even make sense!

I guess from the rave reviews this series has some people that really enjoyed them. I suppose they just weren’t my type of books

The writing style annoyed me so much with the constant use of the word “preternatural” and it’s kinda silly but I didn’t like how every paragraph started with a quotation mark
