Fun, sweet read about 2 college age guys. I enjoyed the main characters, as well as, the side characters.
The way her books make me laugh out loud ... the banter is exactly my sense of humor.
But then she flips the script and has them say the most romantic damn things on the planet.
Her books just make me feel GOOD. That's it.
I have to face the facts. I’ve turned into a stalker. I can already see the restraining order in my future. Still, I’ve come this far, so it would be a shame to quit now.
“You haven’t made plans for how you’re going to die? I’m not sure I can be friends with somebody so careless about the important things in life.”
“I think it makes perfect sense. First of all, exercise is good for you.”
He gasps. “You take that back.”
“Keep talking. But just remember, people have gone to hell for less, and God is always listening.”
But then she flips the script and has them say the most romantic damn things on the planet.
Kissing should definitely be Law’s major. And minor. And his future career. He should just walk around and kiss all day long because he’s that good. But not other people. Just me.
“I don’t care about six-packs. If you want one, I’ll help you train. But otherwise, you don’t need it to be the hottest person I’ve ever been with.”
There are shadows underneath Andy’s eyes. They’re barely there, but I notice them because I know Andy’s face. I love Andy’s face. I love the tiny dimple that becomes visible only when he laughs out loud. I love the bow of his lips. I love the silvery-gray eyes that are now aimed at me.
The world should give me a pat on the back for exposing everyone to the awesomeness that is Andy Carter.
Her books just make me feel GOOD. That's it.
This was a cute story, if kind of basic. I've never read a "makeover" book with a guy before so that was an interesting premise. I'm glad Law reminded Andy that he didn't need to change for anyone though, right from the beginning. Because obviously that's a bad idea. Law was sweet and the banter between him and Andy was pretty great. There wasn't anything ground breaking here, but after DNFing multiple books in a row, I was thankful it kept my attention.
4.5 stars. My expectations for this weren't super high, but it turned out to be super adorable and just what I was in the mood for. I loved Andy and Law's initial dynamic, and how from the start Law is just kind of delighted by Andy and wants to be around him more. I enjoyed them getting to know each other and how they brought out the best in one another (but also that Law was definitely into Andy prior to his ~makeover). And I liked that there were a lot of moments that I feel could've been frustrating if handled poorly, but they all turned out better than I feared. I also really liked how all the Falcon stuff was handled, because I've read so many much worse versions of this kind of story. I liked that even though Falcon and Law didn't like one another, neither of them ever behaves like so much of a dick around the other that you'd question why Andy would be friends (or be in love) with either of them. Like, Law doesn't like Falcon, but is still willing to help Andy with his crush and pushes him to confess his feelings to Falcon.
I also really enjoyed Andy's family! Especially the little scene between Law and Andy's dad, where he tells Law that the whole family had noticed how happy Andy had been that summer, and how Andy talked about Law all the time to them. And all the little moments of Andy and Law realizing they were into one another and then later that they were in love were so good. It was all just super sweet! I wasn't expecting this to be this good for some reason! Maybe because I've read a TON of m/m hockey romances (although this one is only tangentially hockey-related — Law is a former hockey player who had to stop playing for health reasons and now is just an assistant coach, but the story also takes place over the summer so hockey is only minimally involved), and a lot of them have been average at best. But this was lovely, and I thought I was going to give it 4 stars after I finished it, but it's really stuck with me, so I ended up bumping it up half a star. I definitely will look for more from this author in the future.
Spoiler
Like when Law starts pulling away a bit after they have sex and at Andy's parents' house, and when Andy confesses his feelings to Falcon.Spoiler
And when Andy invites Law to the bonfire party thing, Falcon's kind of like, "Why is he here?" but lets him come along, and when Andy confesses his feelings, he's like, "uh, let's double check your feelings for me first," and when Andy realizes he doesn't have romantic feelings for Falcon after they kiss, Falcon's like, "Yeah, I kind of thought you were with Law," and pushes him back towards Law. But there's also never any kind of, like, bonding scene between Falcon and Law. They never have a heart-to-heart or become best friends — they still don't care for one another, but their love for Andy guides their behavior towards one another. I feel like that shouldn't be so refreshing and revolutionary, but it was just a really pleasant surprise for me. I also like that even when Law is pulling away from Andy, he doesn't go too over-the-top with it — he doesn't, like, say a bunch of hurtful things to Andy to push him away, or act like he doesn't care about him at all. He just pushes him towards Falcon and then bolts so he doesn't have to deal with the aftermath.I also really enjoyed Andy's family! Especially the little scene between Law and Andy's dad, where he tells Law that the whole family had noticed how happy Andy had been that summer, and how Andy talked about Law all the time to them. This was a delightful surprise. Andy was a klutzy, genius physics nerd who was in love with his best friend and realized he needed a complete make over so that his crush would see him differently. Law was an assistant hockey coach who needed Andy's skills in explaining physics to save the grades of some of his hockey players. With a little negotiating and real-time adjustments, they made a plan that provided both with what they needed.
Man, I loved both of these characters. Andy's quirkiness and Law's immediate acceptance and enjoyment of those quirks really made the story for me. Andy wasn't comfortable around many people, and the fact that he easily became so with Law shows how incredible Law really was. Andy's quick wit made for a lot of laughs for me, and I loved how the two of them could banter so easily with each other. I loved watching the two of them deepen their relationship and fall in love with each other.
I LOVED the epilogue. The glimpse into their future together made the ending just perfect for me.
This is my first book from this author, and I'm definitely going to check out more of her books.

I rated it so highly mostly because there was not a single thing I could point to and call bad or poorly written. It's consistent so if you don't like it from the fist 20% it's not going to change. It's a deeply good book not amazing or life changing but an excellent comfort read.
