Project Hero was an exeptionally entertaining gay romance with he endearing tropes of nerd/athlete romance and nerd makeover.
Andy Carter is a stereotypical physicist with matching unruly looks, glasses and funny science pun T-shirts and he felt like all his life he'd been the sidekick of the story in the sahdow of his basketball player best friend, Falcon. So he decides it's time to initiate Project Hero which entalis that during the summer he's to go through a makeover to finally show Falcon that they're meant to be more than best friends.
Law Anderson, the assistant coach to the university's hockey team is in desperate need of a physics tutor for his team. So he borderline stalks Andy to get him to help.
Both of them need help to reach their goals and they might just be the one the other needs. Andy agrees to tutor the team if Law helps him out with his makeover and wooing Falcon. And this deal somehow leads them to become friends.
I loved this story for several reasons. First there are the characters. Andy is the nerd who has no idea about fashion and people and is very insecure about himself thus the need for the makeover. But with Law he feels comfortable and his humour and brain and sarcasm come out. Law is a really good person who lives for hockey and helping out others. He helps Andy step out of his comfort zone and feel comfortable in his skin. He doesn't see the need to change the nerdy physicist because he starts to see that he's perfect as he is.
The other thing I loved was the sweet nature of their conversations. Andy is awkward with words and Law never once made fun of him. Yes, he was amused and teased but never once made Andy feel bad about it. And when they relaxed they bickered and teased and had serious conversations. It was amazing to see how much it counts that someone accepts the way you really are.
And my third favourite thing was that the fact that it was a romance between two men was not the central topic. It was a romance where two people met and became friends and fell for each other. I don't think the word 'gay' was in the book. So many MM books focus on coming out or hiding in the closet or homosexuality not being accepted that it was refreshing to read about gay love as it was no big thing. Because, honestly, it's not. Or it shouldn't be. And Project Hero nailed this aspect!
Absolute love!❤

A classic Rom-com in a book. While there were some lack of communication, I can't fault the book for that as it is kinda to be expected with this genre, but I still don't like it..
That aside, Andy really blossoms in his friendship with Law, and their relationship is very sweet.

4⭐️ Adorable and funny. I really enjoyed this sweet nerd/jock friends-with-benefits/virgin romance. Felt like an MM version of the popular book The Deal by Elle Kennedy.
Andy was charismatic and funny, while Law was so SWOON.

lighthearted
3.5 stars, I think, because I just can't make up my mind between 3 and 4.
simple and sweet, minimal drama romance, although I could have done without so much of the obliviousness trope. the writing also felt subpar a lot of the time - the author needs to use less weird similes, they always took me out of the moment. the get together was sweet but the corny as hell epilogue was a little too much for me. I smiled a lot while reading this though, and I did think the two characters had good chemistry. and yay for college romance rather than high school! I need more of that in my reading.
also, who the hell names their kid falcon? I was picturing anthony mackie the entire time lmao

I picked this one up because it's currently all the rage in a m/m book recommendation group I'm in on FB. Everyone said it was low/no angst and fluffy. I wouldn't disagree with their assessment of low angst. I really enjoyed this book and loved Law and Andy. Andy is quirky and extra, Law is kind and charming. I honestly feel like I might be selling this book short with a 4 star rating instead of 4.5. Maybe I've read too much contemporary m/m lately... I might be a little burnt out.
