It's something else, special.

I am not a fan of The Great Gatsby. Read it twice to make sure I wasn't missing something but no. However, I am simple fascinated by the character that is F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I can't help but enjoy his grandiose universe, full of luxury and possessions.

I really enjoyed The Diamond As Big As The Ritz. Maybe because it was straight-forward and realistic in a sense that John isn't a hero. Not all main characters have to be brave and courageous. Let's face it: he's a coward. A guy that is still in love with the girl after she's basically tells him that he's as good as dead... com'on.

But we all know someone who did the "same" thing and we can't help but to feel for him. Even though I'm definitely not condoning Braddock's practices; we still all end up the same way - dead. They just want to be entertained like anybody else... how can we blame them?!

Ultimele pagini le-am citit pe nerăsuflate. M-a emoționat foarte tare povestea aceasta.

Actually really liked this short story!

Fitzgerald is always amazing to read. This short story was no different. It was engaging, well written and the story was so unusual, I bought every thing in it.

(⭐⭐⭐- - )

"He suddenly realized the meaning of the word 'dissipate'-to dissipate into thin air, to make nothing out of something."

In typical Fitzgerald style, the rich people in the story are complete pricks, and the protagonist, John T Unger, gets swept away in the grandeur of their world before noticing the darkness hiding beneath the glitter. The story does get a little clunky towards the end, and the fantasy can be a hit-or-miss, for me, it was more of a miss. Even so, this story about a sinister rich family is extremely entertaining, and a perfect 10 minute read.
