I enjoyed this quick, fluffy read about a professionally closeted actress and the publicist who helps her maintain heterosexual appearances ! I see that the swifties have found this goodreads page, and for that I send my condolences to the author. although the book was set in 2005 (in kind of a contrived way, with references to songs, movies, and news stories of the time; and also at the explicit direction of publishers, as the author shares in the end notes), this is a story that is perhaps too relevant in our current sociopolitical climate, as the federal government attempts to make the public existence of queer people illegal <3 I love reading novels set in the celebrity industry (I'm thinking also of Amy Spalding's excellent series!) because it makes me feel like I get a peek behind the curtain of mystery. many of these machinations are open secrets among insiders or well-informed spectators, but I enjoy how these novels open the door to these worlds for readers. I think it's no secret that there are closeted celebrities engaging in PR relationships, and some rumors are more pernicious than others (looking at u, Perez Hilton and extremely intense Gaylor stans), but I will admit to enjoying my own indulgence in private, idle speculation about who else I think might be queer. there's some complex negotiations of the politics of being out, outing someone (always bad!), and the role we play in upholding oppressive systems. that said, I did find the writing to be kind of contrived and corny at times, but that's on me being a snob.

Fun read and a really cute romance! I don't think I would classify it as a rom-com. The situations are relatable, but not really all that funny. Also, one of the characters uses the m-word.

DID NOT FINISH

I read a few chapters and couldn’t care about Ali or her anxiety or her shitty job

Absolutely DEVOURED this book - I thought the conversations of grief and chronic pain added a nice depth to this that not all usually in similar sexy romance books. Some of it felt a little predictable but isn’t that one of the lovely things about these romance books?

The conversations about closeting and homophobia in Hollywood were very interesting… the dilemma of working within a system that is built against you vs breaking and trying to change the system… this book had a nice ending which I wish was true!!!! But overall nice palette cleanser and light sexy read in a turbulent world

I mostly enjoyed it but I'm p sure that's not how migraines work

This book was engaging but having been alive/conscious in 2005, I found some of the slang anachronistic and it threw me off whenever certain words and phrases were used.

I also did not like the way Ali talked about Dana and her kids. I have also decided to be child free but I could never imagine thinking about my best friend and her kids this way.

Ultimately, I wanted more from this one.
