This is half touching letters of advice and half memoir. 100% hilarious.
A great listen after enjoying her performance in Beef, although I wish this book had a similarly balanced introspection to comedy ratio.
Even the heavier topics are discussed in a very light-hearted way, but I can’t compare too much as this was written several years ago and probably for a different audience. Even then I get the sense that Wong’s style has evolved into something more reflective and I’m excited to see more of her work!

Dear girls
Ali Wong is real and funny and tells it like it is. Her book carries as well as her comedy specials and should be real alongside ‘yes please’ and ‘bossy pants’ for a great binge.

It’s not regular letters from a mother to daughters but from a mother who is a comedian. Maybe it is because that Ali is a comedian, the content is much real and down to earth. I like how she is admitting the struggles as a female, as a female in standup comedy, as an Asian American in the entertainment industry, and as a mother who is the bread maker of the family, without being sarcastic but also not pessimistic. Just wondering how her daughters would feel when they read these letters.
