yeah.. this is probably my last Sanderson book so it's a shame I ended on such a not great note. The mc was insufferable especially when it came to megan. I know he's eighteen so I guess it's "realistic" but I grew really tired by his constant ogling remarks and whining abt how megan doesn't like him. Umm sir maybe its because ur freaking annoying. I disliked how they handwaved away the fact that she was nasty because of her powers and not bc maybe she was in her right to be annoyed at the mc.
Speaking of our lead and love interest. David was a gary stu and megan was so much not like the other girls I was rolling my eyes the entire time. Wow she's so special because she's fearless and not too cowardly to fight back like those other girls. Hmm.... maybe its cuz she's a super powerful epic. Oh wait David completely forgot abt that fact when he's still pining after her by the end of the novel. In this regard, the book felt very catered to the male gaze unfortunately.
I do have to give Sanderson his dues when it came to the plot. While corrupt superheroes isn't really a novel concept anymore, I appreciated how intelligence is used to take them down. He placed foreshadowing moments really well and the death of Steelheart made sense. HOWEVER, it was not very satisfying bc he didn't even realize he was going to die.
One last thing, this isn't really a plot hole but Steelheart's weakness being that only someone unafraid of him can hurt him is so... How would he have even figured that out???

I love The Reckoners series! The worldbuilding felt unique and engaging, and the story kept me hooked from the beginning. I enjoyed the fast pace, and I thought the unfolding of the plot twists was done really well.
4.2⭐
That was epic!
My first time ever reading Brandon Sanderson's book and truly captivated me.
An anti-mainstream story, action-packed, loveable characters, interesting world, and PLOT TWISTS (yes, with plural)!
I really enjoyed reading this one, even though i think it was kinda young for me, but i have no regrets, for sure.

A surprisingly good book, with fun (if young) characters and really cool worldbuilding. Sanderson manages to make this YA series feel both meaningful and brief, coming in at only a few hundred pages, and there is no filler to be found here. Classic Sanderlanche at the end had me ready for the next book.
I really enjoyed this novel. It grabbed me from the first page but it did have a huge boring spot towards the middle. But once it picked back up......it REALLY picked back up. And the ending has me excited to read the sequel coming out later this year. All in all, I highly recommend this book.

Like The Boys but this universe is more vast and diverse. And with a lot of smart twists. Sanderson does that a lot especially towards the end. Of course, Megan wasn't dead but I wasn't hoping her to be an Epic. That was a sick twist. Loved it. Also, Professor. Abraham and Cody are my favourite and Tia. But I find David annoying. This boy needs to grow up. And I hope he does in the next two books.
