While reading, I completely emphasized with characters - experiencing sadness, anger, concern for them, but most importantly, in my mind, dread. I had a feeling from the start and throughout the book that it wouldn't have a so-called happy ending, but I was still extremely invested. The dread and downright fear I felt - one that is bone deep, and still do, while reading or thinking about the book is almost unexplainable. At certain points, I felt like I was struggling to breathe while my jaw clenched painfully hard.
There is really nothing I can say that no one else has said about this book... I'm glad that this novel is a classic, and I'm grateful that I've read it. It will have a long-lasting impact on me. The only thing that I regret is that I hadn't read it sooner. I just hope, desperately hope, that we won't experience a reality similar to this. But what makes me even more terrified, is that the signs are showing already. I want to crawl into a hole and never come out of it.

HOWEVER, the big speeches about society felt very repetitive and there impact fell flat, the commentary about the society that characters would give felt very obvious? And generic? I get that that’s kind of the point but I wish that it focused on Winston’s mental state more (I really enjoyed those parts).
Also, the
TLDR:
Great book, great pacing but didn’t like the relationship with Julia and the majority of ‘epic’ speeches of realisation about their society.
