I loved the somewhat ambiguous ending, is it just Winston who was broken or is there really no hope for change?
One of the only negative points for me is that the characters felt a bit flat sometimes, nobody besides Winston Smith seems to have any goals/motivations or a personality. Also the torture scenes felt overly long and, at times, took the focus away from the more political commentary.
Some themes are still very relevant today. While reading I often had to remind myself that this book was written before the age of smartphones, social media, constantly being online, AI and fake news. The way Orwell explores surveillance, propaganda, and the control of information feels eerily familiar.

I wore my best headphones for this, and I got the full experience. At some point I genuinely thought someone was behind me, passing by ME.
As for the story, I didn't fully know what I signed up for when I started this, and the final scenes will leave a mark on me forever. The music helped, I felt anxious and scared and terrified the whole time
So... a really good read, exactly what I wanted from this book!!!
Be prepared to never have faith in humanity again and be terrified of extremist government đź«

However, the story itself was simply not something I could get that interested in. I didn't like the characters, the plot was very lacking and I found it hard to care about story. I respect the story for what it is which is a vessel for exploring this fictional world and the ideas that make it so horrible of a society but I barely enjoy it simply as a story.
In summary: Uninteresting story, well-handled subject, disturbing (good) worldbuilding and a dark warning that needs to be heard.
