But Orwell himself writes with deep, furious empathy, at times giving us an intimate view of poverty and torture that forces you to feel the injustices committed on paper.
It’s an impressive, exhausting, amazing novel. I feel like I need to almost adjust my other reviews to give this one the rating it deserves.
10/10. Read it if you haven’t.

I can understand why this is studied and considered to be a classic but I'm not sure how entertaining it really is.
I understood the gist of the message/messages within this book and I do think it's interesting to take elements and apply them to real life.
I disliked being beaten over the head with the message over and over and over again. I also really really disliked the book within a book chapter. I'm fine with admitting that I'm probably too stupid to understand it ; it just felt too dense and a little out of place.
Julia was terribly written and it felt very misoganistic and sexist at times. I feel this book is probably a product of its time so doesn't translate as well as it once did.
Perhaps I'll re read down the line and gather a deeper understanding and appreciation. I'm glad I have read it but I can't say that it's one that'll stand out as a favourite.
