Fucking hell.

I’ve never read or watched 1984 before, so of course I chose the most tumultuous time to finally engage with it, and all I feel is angry, at the ending, at the injustice for individuality, and certainly at the relevance to today.

The cast were all absolutely brilliant, Garfield, Erivo and Scott were always going to be golden, but I feel Romesh Ranganathan deserves a huge round of applause for his role as Parsons, I even did a double take when I heard his voice as I was that taken aback by this brilliant comedian starring in such a hard hitting audio drama, but please give me more!

I’ve recommended people check this edition out already, and yet I’m still going to pester people until I’ve run out of people to talk to, it’s just that good!

Girlboss gaslight gatekeep

But for real - I was waiting for Winston's submission to be his entry as a double agent/into the brotherhood.

It is obviously an important book, at times it is an enjoyable book. The plot is extremely well thought out and executed beautifully. It can’t be an easy feat to completely build a horribly corrupt, evil, dystopian government/society.
That being said, it is so boring. Orwells writing drags on for so long, one thing that could be a few sentences becomes two pages and all of a sudden I am asleep.
That really is my only negative. It is a great story and there were many times that I paused reading just to sit and think about what I just read.

And immersive and chilling play of George Orwell’s 1984.

Truly an incredible cast…
Andrew Garfield brings true paranoia to our ears.
Cynthia Erivo brings humanity to Julia.
Andrew Scott is a sinter O’Brien.
Tom Hardy is a looming presence as Big Brother.

Highly recommend if you have an audible subscription. Production quality is out of control.

A bit of a hard read at certain points, but definitely worth it! I've re-read this a few times.

1984 started off very well. I loved George Orwell's writing, I was loving his descriptions, and the story was keeping me at the edge of my seat. I am someone who loves dystopian novels, so that I was loving this was not a surprise. This was true for most of the book but I wish Orwell had kept the momentum of the story up. Instead he decided to take a turn towards the end of the book and insert one of his essays. Yes, the essay was related  but it was definitely not as interesting. I found myself reading but not really understanding. Maybe I am just not smart enough for Orwell, or maybe I just stopped caring. Either way, after the essay was over, I had trouble getting back into the story. Orwell took the plot into a dark hole and I felt that the last part of the book was not as strong as the beginning. If Orwell had kept the momentum going, I feel I would have given this a higher rating. Overall I did not dislike 1984, but I want to read more into what exactly Orwell was trying to say by his ending aside from the obvious.
