My favourite of the series so far! Just like every book there are so many touching, moving moments. J.D. Robb really knows how to write a tough, damaged and emotional character. Eve is all cop and they tried to take that from her. It very nearly breaks her. Roarke and her friends come together to help solve this case and to help Eve.

Eve is someone you definitely want on your side!

Eve is called to a scene, which has not been properly secured and buts head with Officer Bowers, who happens to have a grudge against her from the acadamy. The deceased is a street sleeper, not the top of anyone's top crimes, other than Eve's. With the help of her colleagues she finds other similar victims across the globe. The common MO, a major organ has been perfectly removed. So this points Eve in the direction of the local Clinic and a number of high level Medical Centres throughout the globe. At the local clinic she meets Dr Louise Dimatto and I have to say that I like this new character. The officer with whom Eve had the disagreement files a complaint, the first mark on Eve's 11 year sheet. Unhappy, she has another incident with Bowers and another complaint is filed, along with claims that Eve has slept her way up through the ranks. Bowers is then brutally murdered and Eve a suspect. Whitney has no choice but to ask fer her sheild and badge. Watching Eve deal with the removal of her identity was painful, she's a cop, it's all she's ever been. But she finds strength through Roarke and Dr Mira. But does she get her badge and shield back? Or is she off the force for good?

I'm finally back to Eve Dallas!

What a great story. This series just keeps getting better with each book.

This one is one of the books that makes me uncomfortable. Corruption storylines always bother me.

However, it's also one of my favorites. Trueheart makes his first appearance, along with Louise.

While Eve isn't ever comfortable blurring the legal lines, she's able to jump in with both feet to save her job and catch the bad guys.

I love how her band of friends step up to the bat for her. This is just another great book in an awesome series.

Just when I think they can't get any better, I'm wrong. Eve is constantly evolving in this series and I love it. This one was especially more emotional for me when it came to her. Without giving any spoilers, my heart broke for her. She was alone for so long it's hard for her to see all the people that she has around her that believe in her, trust her, and would go to bat for her. And I love that each and every one of them have such a strong presence in every book: Feeney, Peabody, Whitney, Mira, McNab. But the most important is Roarke. The relationship between Eve and Roarke is something I look forward to in this series. I love that he's constantly there to help her, lift her up and just be there for her.

Out of all the books so far, Eve was the most vulnerable in this one. Literally stripped and made bare. I'm excited to see where the next book takes us!

“You know, a lot of women would get pissed off at having their husband star in their aide’s purient little fantasies.” “But you’re bigger than that, Lieutenant. I like that about you.”

“Roarke: "Pull yourself together, Eve."
He was already in a business suit, his hair shining and sleek...
Eve: "How come you already are?"
Roarke: "Because staying in bed half the morning unless sex is involved is a waste of time. Since you didn't appear to be cooperative in that area, I started my day with coffee instead”

This is one of those series that I can power through. If all of them were like $2 as ebooks I would get them all. As it is though, my mom actually has hard copies of all of the old ones and we are waiting for the rest to go on sale as ebooks. I love this series, I love the humor, and the interplay between characters.

Tenhle díl byl takový slabší. Zápletka se mi i líbila, jen už to na takovou kratší knihu bylo moc.
