Holden is the quintessential QB1, dedicated, focused, driven. He puts his teammates and the betterment of the team first, always. He's a leader on and off the field, and this is his year to build up his draft resume, and take his team to the championship. He has never let himself get distracted, until he meets Julep, a new student athletic trainer, and the new head coaches' daughter.

Julep is just trying to survive. She wants to show her dad that she is getting better day by day and no longer living a destructive lifestyle. She's keeping her head down and staying focused on her degree, and not backsliding into bad habits. Now all she needs to do is make the quarterback stay away.

Watching Holden and Julep bond over their trauma and their relationship grow from mutual attraction, to a deep emotional connection was beautiful. This is by far my favorite book in this series, so far!

I actually really enjoyed this. I liked both the MCs and I thought the writing and pacing was really good. I appreciated that the main premise of their ‘forbidden’ relationship was actually legit and that they both respected it enough to resist each other for a while, rather than it just being a flimsy plot device.

This thing I like about this series is that the third act conflict is always predictably dramatic but it’s often resolved quite quickly I feel and in the books I’ve read so far it hasn’t ever involved a miscommunication between the MCs where they doubt each other’s feelings properly, it’s usually external which I prefer.

I could have read about 3 more epilogues cause they’re such a sweet couple and I love Holden but overall this was just a great NA College football romance where both MCs have a tragic past that they heal in each other.

“We can keep it secret.”
“So, that’s what you want?” I asked, hating how my chest ached. “A secret?”
“I want you, and if quietly is the only way you’ll let me have you, I’ll take it.”

Wow, I didn't think I'd love this even more than Blind Side, but I connected with these characters so much more! As an interconnected series, these can all be read as standalones, but they’re all fantastic so I recommend starting from the beginning.

highlights:
- spicy scenes
- dual POV
- there's no lame third act breakup. it's a break up (kinda) but for a legit reason
- coach's daughter
- forbidden
- forced proximity
- reverse grumpy sunshine
- college
- football
- he falls first
- A LOT of sneaking around

TW/CW: Death of a sibling & parents. Grief. Drug & alcohol abuse. Mention of suicide of a family member.

Synopsis
After a traumatic family event, Julep arrives transfers to North Boston University during her junior year when her father takes the head coaching job for the football team there. She joins the athletic training dept as an intern and begins to work with Holden Moore, QB1.

Holden is immediately smitten with her, despite the fact that their coach has warned the entire team that he will literally kick them off the team if they so much as breathe in her direction.

Thoughts
There’s a lot of angst in this story. I absolutely loved Julep. Both her and Holden have experienced loss and have reacted different. This helps guide Julep through her grief and her healing to see someone else who has suffered the same, if not more than her, and has moved on to be this amazing version of himself.

I really connected with Julep, which is part of the reason I loved this story so much. I do think some might get frustrated with her. She is reckless, self-destructive and in a difficult place in her personal life. Her relationship with her father is okay, but on the rocks.

Holden is your classic football captain. He's mature, smart, well-behaved, sets a good example...He falls for Julep first and through some forced proximity, he slowly begins to chip away at the walls she has constructed around herself. They both know that her father wouldn't approve for a variety of reasons, so the closer they get, the more they need to sneak around. This goes against who Holden is and challenges Julep who has been trying to stay on the straight and narrow and not give her father any cause for concern over her.

Holden was just the perfect character to compliment Julep. I love how they learned from each other and how mature they were about their feelings for each other. They were able to acknowledge what was going on but still be immature enough to sneak around and not be upfront.

tbh i didn't enjoy this as much as i did with the 2nd book but it was an enjoyable read.
