This is book 3 in the series but it's the first book I have read. I will definitely be reading reading first two books.

I feel that I wasn't at a disadvantage not having read the first two books before this one. I feel that Henley's character was developed through their personal connection with this story.

I really liked that the book went inbetween the present day and 25 years ago with different narrator's. The two crimes they are investigating are both very interesting and I wasn't sure how ot was going to end.

I'd not read the first two of this series, but it works ok as a standalone.
There are a lot of characters involved so it required a little more concentration at times to remember who was who. I enjoyed the tangled web of the dark plot.
I think if I'd have read the previous books I'd have enjoyed it all the more as I'd be more familiar with characters and their past.

I've loved all three books in this series, I like the way we are getting to know the characters in the SCU and their back stories are building. Although this one was still a bit grizzly in parts, it wasn't as graphic as the other two, and the story still kept me gripped.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

Nadine Matheson is a crime fiction QUEEN. She writes such beautifully complex, brutal page turners that perfectly blend police procedure + the personal lives of the detectives. I really enjoyed ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฃ๐ข๐ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐š๐ง last year + now need to go back and read the second book, which I annoyingly missed!

This gory, action-packed, engaging read brings together well developed characters, each with their own flaws + struggles and a relentless pace with short chapters + interchanging perspectives to keep you on your toes. The writing style is clever + captivating writing style, and thereโ€™s no shortage of politics, emotion + corruption to have you glued to the pages.

The characters are authentic + relatable and I loved seeing the human side to the team of detectivesโ€” Matheson brilliantly highlighted the toll this kind of career takes on people and it was both moving + strikingly true. Henley is such a bold and likeable MC, whose vulnerability was explored throughout the plot, and the serial killer was callous, chilling and cunning.. everything a well written serial killer should be.

That cliffhanger ending has me super excited for (๐Ÿคž๐Ÿฝ) book four! This series is an absolute must read for any police procedural lovers!

*ARC received.

The Kill List is the third book in the Inspector Angelica Henley series and another fantastic read by the author and you can read it as a standalone.

The SCU is on a hunt for a serial killer after the man who has been in castrated and accused of killing 5 women 25 years ago was acquitted after some further DNA was found. But was murdered on the same day.

The serial killer seems to have started killing again, as a body is found with the mouth sewn up. But when they untie it, they find a list in their mouth of people have died and going to be next.

We also learn and their personal lives and the effect that working for the Police has a detrimental effect on each SCU team members relationships.

This is a dark tense gripping read, with some red herrings along the way.  I enjoyed this  for the most part, but for me found the storyline far too long 4 stars from me.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot was realistic! It may seem strange that a serial killer could avoid justice for quite a number of years as a result of luck, bystanders non-involvement or just sheer ineptitude/corruption at a high level in the police. Sadly, that could be something we are currently reading about in the news!

I thought the main characters were intriguing and very โ€œhumanโ€ - much like characters in Nordic-noire thrillers.

I look forward to reading more!
