Follow Me Back

A.V. Geiger

3.6 AVERAGE

I'm not quit sure how I feel about this book.. At first it was a really exciting story about fan cultur and obsessing over celebrity's. It made you think about you own fangirling.
But then all of the sudden there was this twist at the end. And now I'm shocked and confused. I need to progress all of it, before I can consider reading the second book. But all in all it was a good book to read in between.

Initially I was worried that this book would be too fluffy, too pop-culture-centric is keep my attention but soon there were a few things that kept me turning pages.

First, it was interesting to see how uncomfortable sexual objectification made Eric. Being fawned over for his studio-ordered abs as opposed to his musical talent was heartbreaking, and a gender reversal since I'm usually more aware of how female artists are praised for beauty above all else.

Second, I was curious about the mysterious origins of Tessa's anxieties. Her narrow world also provided a greater believability for this intense online friendship/relationship.

Then there were some twists, one that was pretty easy to suss out because of strategic writing: not using pronouns or describing features that might indicate gender, keeping other items purposely vague.

And then there was the final twist of the book.

I can't decide if it was purposefully left open to interpretation, or if it's as literal as it seems. Given that this book is the first in a series I feel like there must be more that the author feels like she can explore...

I don't want to include any spoilers, but if you've read the book, please tell me what you think!

This review was made possible thanks to an advanced readers copy from Netgalley.

THIS BOOK!!! I read most of it in one day, even though I had a full day of uni and now I‘m absolutely flabbergasted! I have to admit, it was extremely dramatic (some might even say it was too much), but I felt entertained the entire time. I can‘t talk about the ending tho, BECAUSE I CAN‘T HANDLE IT OKK!! Can‘t wait to hold book 2 in my hand!

The only thing my mind can come up with right now is what the fuck.

I'm sorry, WHAT?! What the heck am I supposed to do with that?!

This book was a ride I was not expecting to take. I expected some fluff with a good dose of drama, but what I got was an episode of Catfish...if Catfish was in the thriller genre.

Geiger had me second-guessing what I thought I knew throughout the book and I have absolutely no choice but to pick up the sequel, if I can survive the wait.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

It was addictive, I'll give it that. But also completely ridiculous.

3.5 stars!
Have you ever read a book that revolves mostly over Twitter DM's? No? Well, neither have I until now. We open up our story with a police interview, so we know something went down, and then we get transported back five months before to find out what happened. We get introduced to Eric, a famous singer who is scared and trapped in a contract, and Tessa, an agoraphobic girl who is a fangirl of Eric's music. On a whim, Eric decides to make a hate account for himself and DM's Tessa, and then things take off from there. As the book progresses, we get tiny glimpses into the future that will leave you guessing what happens.
I decently enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, but some parts left me confused for a few chapters. I do wish that Tessa's backstory was a little more fleshed out, but from what I've seen a decent chunk of writing lies on Wattpad, so it may be hiding there! The ending was a whirlwind that I did not see coming. I am very curious to see where Eric and Tessa's story goes from here. So in the end, if you are looking for a quick romance/mystery book, this may be the book for you!

This book wasn’t really my favorite. It wasn’t that great. But it was one of those “I gotta know how it ends”, and I will say... the ending had a big enough twist I want to read the second one.
