I am so conflicted about this book and how to rate it. It was such a fast and 'fun' read for me but at the same time I feel like I may not understand it at all. That ending!? I feel like I understand what happened...but do I? Do I really?
Anyway, this is a not what I would call fluffy but it's really not all that complex either. A girl with agoraphobia starts a twitter dialogue with a stranger and things turn out to be not quite what everyone involved expected. It's cute at times and frustrating at others. This book deals with mental health and has trigger warnings for stalking, abduction, and violence.
All in all I really enjoyed it but it wasn't the most complex or imaginative stories I've ever read. I have a hard time giving 'thrillers' high ratings because they rarely surprise me. This one did an ok job of keeping plot points from being predictable, though. Overall, I really enjoyed this read.

I didn’t really think this was going to be my type of book and it’s my first YA novel. I was pleasantly surprised by how fast I was pulled into both main characters lives and felt that I needed to know more about both of them. I loved reading their messages in some chapters where you can see them getting to know one another. I also didn’t see the ending coming and also found it quite believable in this day and age. I actually can’t wait to read the next one and see what’s going on! This book ended on a cliff hanger and I hate and love that at the same time!
Some good twists throughout! Fun read and a really interesting concept.
Omg I loved it, that ending though! I need the sequel like now
I picked up this book randomly, without knowing anything about it beforehand. I only knew this was one of the Wattpad 'sensation' stories, so I expected something light and entertaining for a quick read.
I was hooked. I couldn't really put it down as I kept wanting to know more. I think the celebrity crush aspect was played nicely into the main plot, and it made the thriller aspect of the story stronger. And sure, the romance part of the story was a bit too teenager-y for me (I blame my own age for it) but the suspense was good, and after the ending, I really wanted to know more.
Off to the next book now.

This book is a little cheesy but very readable. I read it in a few sittings and didn't see that ending coming. I'll definitely pick up the next one.
Follow Me Back is so far outside my usual wheelhouse that it’s barely on the same field (truth be told, it might not even be the same sport). But I had so much fun with it that I devoured it all in a single sitting one sunny afternoon.
Our protagonists are Tessa Hart and Eric Thorn - the former an agoraphobic pop fan, the latter a tweenage heart-throb tired of his own fame. Sick of his fans, Eric creates a fake Twitter account to lash out, but ends up striking up an unlikely friendship with Tessa.
As someone who spent a good chunk of her teenage years dopily following around boybands, the insight into fandom A.V. Geiger provides is utterly accurate - especially the awe and irritation surrounding those “Big Name Fans” who are first with all the hot new gossip. Honestly, this book made me hugely grateful that my own boyband days transpired before the Twitter age. A digital trail of teenage obsession would be too cringe-worthy to bear.
As well as a budding romance, Follow Me Back is also a thriller. A major plot thread follows Eric’s paranoia after a boyband member is murdered by an obsessive fan. The book ends on a major cliffhanger, calling into question all that came before. I’m not absolutely certain I’ll be back for the sequel, but in its own rights Follow Me Back was a hugely enjoyable read.

Follow Me Back is a YA thriller/romance about a girl who is attacked and develops PTSD and can't leave her room because of the trauma. She ends up living on Twitter and obsessed with a teen musician. The musician, also suffering from a mild form of PTSD after a fan killed another musician friend, decides to follow the girl on Twitter in order to troll her. *Insert eye-roll here* Of course, they end up falling for each other because they connect on a "much deeper level" than they ever thought possible. *gag*
Anyway, I'm embarrassed to admit how much I actually enjoyed this book, and although the premise is rather ridiculous, the book wasn't half bad. More exciting than I expected at first glance. And definitely a quick enough read to finish in a day!
Would I recommend? Probably not - unless you are into far-fetched teen thriller/romances and have a high level of suspension of disbelief. Will I recommend it to teens, though? Heck yes! I know just the juvenile delinquents who would enjoy reading this... buahahaha!! 😜

Social media is enjoyed by many, but following a traumatic event, it becomes Tessa's only connection to the world outside her bedroom. She developed an online friendship with someone she believes is a fellow Eric Thorn fan, but who is actually the real Eric Thorn.
I enjoyed Follow Me Back. Among the reasons why:
Eric and Tessa
Both were so wounded for very different reasons, and I really wanted them to work through their issues. Tessa had experiences something that was quite horrible, and resulted in her developing agoraphobia. This "event" was slowly revealed to us, and it was quite a long wait to find out what led her to lock herself away from the world. It was a painful wait, but I thought the reveal was times quite well.
Eric was a YouTube sensation, who became a pop superstar. He felt as though he was being exploited by his label, and his fame was related to his appearance and not to his talent. He had grown very disillusioned with his fame, and also fearful of his extreme fans after the murder of a fellow pop star. I felt a lot of sympathy for him and Tessa, and although Eric chose fame, I still understood that he gave up a lot to attain and keep that fame.
The romance
The romance was very sweet. It grew from a tweeted taunt, and grew to be so much more. I know Eric was hiding his real identity, but he still was able to reveal his true self to Tessa.
The mixed format
I am a sucker for a mixed format book. The DMs and tweets didn't have that big an impact for me, but the police transcripts did. This story starts "after", but not at the end, and the snippets were used quite wisely to set up each portion of the flashback. I thought they also did a great job of bringing me back to the mystery that was woven into the story, which I needed, because I kept getting lost in the romance.
The ending
That ending came out of nowhere for me. I totally did not expect that! It definitely did its job setting me up for book 2, but be prepared, it's a cliffy.
Overall: A sweet romance with a dash of psychological thriller set in our media driven world.
