I really wanted to like this book. I did! But no matter what, I couldn’t get into it. It felt horribly boring and never once did I feel motivated to keep reading. It’s an incredible concept that just, to me, fell short.

The first time I heard of this book was from a recommendation from Dia Reeves, author of Slice of Cherry and Bleeding Violet. We were lamenting over the lack of creepy books in YA and she mentioned this. SOLD. Then I heard there as photography in it. DOUBLE SOLD. And in one of those dangerous late night sessions on BookDepository.com (which I vastly prefer over Amazon) it was purchased. It was another late night that I started reading it, which was another STUPID idea and led me to playing Jewels on my phone till almost 5 am so I could get my mind un-creeped out so I could sleep. But something that creeps me out deserves an award on my shelf. (Ironically, it wasn’t the photographs that freaked me out, but the drawing of the monster Jacob sees. Cree-py.)

It’s hard to put my finger on what exactly I loved so hard about this book. Maybe it was the fact it was beautifully written with eloquent language and amazing vivid imagery. Or maybe it was the fact that Riggs made his characters out of photographs from the Victorian (or there about) days. Which blows my little writer mind (in a good way). Maybe it was the premise: a home of strange children - freaking yes! Or perhaps, damn it all, I just really loved the main character, Jacob. Funny, snarky and just scared enough to watch him overcome it. Brilliant.

I think it was the strange blend of creeping the hell out of me and making me cracking up that brought this book home. My personal favorite moment: Jacob dropping an old trunk off a second story to bust it open. An odd choice, but in theory could work. What happens? It goes straight through the first floor and into the basement. This had me burst out into such obnoxious laughter, my cat was frightened.

As of now Goodreads says there is no sequel. But... but... how!?
Dear Mr. Ransom Riggs, I am writing to you today in request of a sequel. I mean, SERIOUSLY?! Step back and take a look at what you’ve created. Beautiful, yes? Now, how can you in all good faith leave it there?! Find some more pictures. I’m ready for more. Sincerely, A Needing More Fan.

Oh my gosh, why didn't I finish this when I started reading it a year ago??? It was so so so good!!!! I can't wait to get into Hollow City!!!

Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children. I get a lot from a title and it definitely caught my attention. Looked it up and read the back. Okay I am game! Let’s see where this takes me. It was a great story with a gasp or two, a little bit of nail biting, a smidge of predictability, and left me wondering what will come in the next books. There was a moment of golden compass and another moment of the x men. Yes I did say x men. The exact thought comes from a statement from a White about the commons and the struggle and ridicule of the peculiar children. It had me hooked till I hit almost mid-way. It felt horridly predictable. This just took the story right out of me.

I confess I put the book down for a while. Still a little wonder flickering. Passed by it sitting on the table. I kept thinking come on, finish it. With a friendly nudge from a friend I picked it back up and finished. I was pleasantly surprised! It did have the predictability I dreaded but not to the extent my mind had created. It picked back up with great steam and finished with great curiosity. In all I really liked it! I even think it would make a good movie ………. if done right!!!!! Its descriptive writing is enough to make the movie run in my head as I read. I absolutely loved the pictures that are scattered throughout the story. In reading a little about the author the pictures are actual pictures he has run across as a photograph collector! The fact the story itself came from his hobby is another thing I found pretty cool. “If I can’t know their real stories, I’ll make them up.” To be honest this actually added to it’s uniqueness and intrigue for me. It’s a good, unique in its own right, story. I would say two thumbs up

I loved this book! It was quirky and strange, and there were parts where I face palmed myself repeatedly. I don't understand why some people were so confused; I understood everything perfectly! I wish there was more description, mostly because I couldn't imagine some things completely. And the whole romance was quite odd and too sudden -- I felt like this book should have been longer and added the longer effect. But, overall, this book was such fun to read!

Не бях чел нещо толкова вълнуващо от много време насам. Идеята е толкова оригинална и не очаквах да ми хареса толкова много!

This was really fun and I loved how the author incorporated pictures into the story it really helps build the atmosphere of the book. I’d be interested in reading the next books in the series.
