Thing are moving too slow, Big Mystery™️ included. I don’t think the Frost Faire was really necessary albeit it was an interesting tidbit. It felt like the book was starting in the wrong place (too early) just to squeeze in that setting. And I don’t feel like Caro or the Duke have distinct personalities. Caro writes spicy books and the duke has blue eyes and nice hands. I just need a lil more to keep going.
Bennett added a lot of modern terms and modern social conventions. Which is cool- it’s not like I’m an educated enough reader to identify every anachronism. BUT it’s a little annoying that we still have to focus on a Duke/titled dude. The book almost seemed self aware, but not to the extent in the Surprise! Dukes series, which felt like the better balance. I dunno, I think I’m just getting more critical of HR where writers want to have their cake and eat it too. How are we gonna go rah rah down with the patriarchy in the beginning and then marry some bro with a title and give up your money, your IP rights, and bodily autonomy? It’s a weird move to make a character who is arguably doing better on her own in a time when marriage means becoming the chattel of your husband and . . . Make the end goal marriage. Even if brotato has beaucoup bucks.

I fun premise with absolutely no tension or spark. I skimmed the second half because I just couldn't get invested.
Didn’t connect with the characters. Also completely and totally annoyed by how the dialogue and attitudes of the characters didn’t match the time period.
tale as old as time (it was too slow, lost my interest and i don't want to pick it back up)
I received this book as a NetGalley ARC and let me tell you this was absolutely awful. I’ve read a lot of historical romances but this was so unbelievably unbelievable that I could barely make it through. There was nothing realistic about the plot or the dialogue. It was so painful to read.
I enjoyed this book a lot. This was following a male widow who found out that maybe his marriage wasn’t all that he thought it would be. It also had a secret women author who worked a bookstore. While I didn’t really find anything about the whole author/book thing to be realistic, I ignore the logic since this is fiction. I enjoyed the banter a lot. The plot had me keep wanting to read, and I liked the character growth. Overall this was a good read. If you like historical romances that are a little more modernized, then definitely check this one out.
Thank you Forever and NetGalley for the DRC of Good Duke Gone Wild! All opinions in this review are my own.
I was excited to read this one because of the concept! Caroline bases her novel's hero on a man she meets briefly, only for him to formally meet him later. Caroline and Dorian start a friends with benefits knowing that Dorian is expected to marry someone with a title. I appreciate that even though their relationship starts out as a friends with benefits, Caroline is committed to prioritizing her independence instead of giving everything up to be with Dorian when presented with the chance. This historical romance is full of lovable characters and funny to moments to keep you invested until the end! I can't wait to read the next book in the Bluestocking Booksellers series!
