I am surprised that I liked this as much as I did, I rarely 'like' classic literature but rather appreciate it. But this was undoubtedly an excellent story, and I enjoyed the way that Shelley managed to show the turmoil of both Frankenstein and the monster and express the horror of their individual experiences so strongly.
Would the monster be a monster at all if Frankenstein didn't treat him as one? There's a strong argument for it, although his appearance, despite not having the details of his creation explained, clearly produces great fear in the people who see him.
The pure souls in this are all destroyed, one by one, and I know who I think they are. Horror, yes, but more so fascinating and personal storytelling

Wow, didn’t remember Frankenstein being such an annoying MC. He literally created all his problems and then avoided dealing with them, only to discover his inaction had vast consequences. While this is a classic and structured differently than many modern books, it was painfully slow at times and then felt major plot points happened without buildup within a paragraph or two. Glad I gave it a reread despite not really enjoying it.

Having been told by a couple of people that they did not enjoy this book, my experience of reading “Frankenstein” exceeded my expectations.
The prose was beautiful.
I found the huge distinctions between the monster’s depiction in the book when contrasted to its depiction in pop culture. Particularly, I was not expecting the monster to end up having perfect command of upper class 19th century English - but it weirdly worked.
I think the plot was exciting and the concept obviously engaging - hence why the book has its staying power.
I think that the character of Elizabeth was excellently depicted as sunshine in human form, making her eventual murder even more solemn.
I was dubious to how the timeline worked (often), and I think Shelley missed an opportunity to drive a message home more effectively and directly - but overall it was an enjoyable read.
