This book was one of my lesser enjoyed Elena Ferrante reads. That is not to say it wasn't extremely well-written, Ferrante doesn't seem to disappoint. I think the exploration of motherhood and all its intents and purposes in this book were not to my taste, but intricacies of woman- and motherhood put to paper was masterfully done. This book was an emotional and psychological trip, I think, but not one I would go on again.

You’re allowed to have complicated feelings about your children, and yes, you can resent them for what they’ve taken from you even as you love them. Perhaps it is even a part of loving? Given the nature of things, it’s ok to want to feel something, even if it is dark and rancid like the insides of a water-soaked doll.
