Yes, CC, we know how much you love Clary-Jace and their sometimes cute, sometimes weird relationship, but if only you had given some of those hundreds of pages you dedicate to them, to Isabelle, Alec and Magnus...

These books always give me some kind of a dilemma. The books from the TMI series are very long and dragging. I'm always torn between putting the book down and flipping the pages. The reason why I constantly want to stop reading is because the characters are getting annoying, especially Clary. In this book, she's reckless and whiny and super irritating. I just want to get inside the book and scream at her for hours. Then there is Clary's relationship with Jace that I find so cringe-worthy. I used to ship them but now, I can't stand the two of them together. Maybe it's because of the thought of incest but
Spoiler even though it was revealed that they're not really siblings, I just can't go back to how things were. I can't ship them anymore. The charm has completely worn off. The ship has sunk. I feel saddened by this but I can't stop myself from disliking them. Though I want to rejoice in the fact that I wasn't wrong to hold on to my faith on plot twists and revelations. Somehow, I always KNEW Clare would find a way out of the incestuous relationship and I was right.
The damage has been done though. I don't like them together now.

The characters I actually loved were Simon and Isabelle. They're my favorite characters in the series and I really ship them. Simon deserves to be happy, after all those years of loving Clary. Isabelle deserves to be happy too because she's a badass with a soft heart. Unlike Clary, she is not irritating. That is a big plus. I really love Luke too. These amazing characters encouraged me to read the book until the end so I'm really thankful for them.

Although there were many times I considered to stop reading this book, I still pushed through because no matter how irritating the characters are, the story is still page-turning. It's just too detailed that my eyes just glaze over. Too much details don't really sit well with my anxious mind. I still gave this book 4 stars because I did enjoy reading it, despite my frustrations over the characters (clary). The plotis well-established and the world-building is exquisite. Also, this is the third book now. I might as well just finish the series. The books are too long though so I don't think I'll be finished with them soon.

I'll be taking a short break from TMI because I'll be reading Aru Shah. Maybe this will also give me time to tame myself not to be so irritated with Jace and Clary in the next book. Wish me luck.

Omg, my love for Simon knows no bounds. I will fight you if you don't think Simon is the best character in this series lol!!!

Now that I got that out of my system. Let's talk about the book.

So I won't go into the plot because this the third book in this series and I don't want to spoil anything for you. I will say this... The plot of this book is so much better than the first two books. The pacing is on point and there are so many unexpected plot twists. Argh so good....so good.

Additionally, in this book, we got a lot more character development across the board, and we were introduced to a couple of new characters in this book. I am growing to just love these characters more and more. A lot of this can be attributed to the writing. Since this is in third-person, Clare utilizes this to give us time with each character and I love how almost every character has their own story arch. This is not just about Clary and Jack, but the story focuses on all the characters. This is really an ensemble narrative.

One really cool aspect of this book was that we got to delve more into the shadow hunters world. In this book, we go to Idris which like a headquarter for shadow hunters. It is almost like there own country. In this area, we get so much more knowledge of this world and learn many interesting backstories of this world.

I am so hyped to continue this series and now I can see why so many people love it. You have amazing characters alongside a fast-paced plot coupled with killer humor and that for me is a recipe for success! If you haven't started this series, get on it!!!!!

I liked this installment of the City of Bones series the most . The characters were expanded

This book is everything. The story popped off and the constant plot twists were absolutely stunning. There was a lot going on, barely any chapters of filler or just dull. I have no idea what to expect from the next books of the series and I can’t wait after reading this one

Wow, that was great just like the other two in the series. Fast moving story with lots of really interesting characters....such as Jace....love it.

So I finally read a TMI book that I actually liked...

TW: incest, violence, death
Rep: queer and bipoc side characters

I have to admit I read this book only because that cursed "you're my sister" line became a meme on book twitter. I was not disappointed.

The book is actually good compared to the previous two - the first book had too much melodrama, and the second was just boring. This one had some action, some drama, and spent enough time with characters who aren't Clary and Jace to prevent me from suffering a full-blown mental breakdown.

The incestuous subplot was so prevalent here I'd say it was more of a main plotline, but at the very least I could enjoy it for its unintended comedic value. There is reason eveyone on twitter is spamming that quote - it's just hillariously bad. I'd compare reading this parts of the book to reading My Immortal, only that City of Glass actually has decent writing.

All the character being in love after only a few weeks of knowing each-other was a huge wtf moment for me. Like, I get Jace and Clary being drawn to one-another because of their angel blood or whatever but Magnus and Alec? Like, don't get me wrong - they are a cute ship, pretty much why I carried on with the series despite the intial two books. But I doubt them being in love in about a month is realistic.

I got spoiled for the angel/demon blood and jace being the Herondale heir twist, but even if I knew it the twist was well-ploted. I think I wouldn't have noticed all the clues for it without knowing. The only thing that bugged me was that the character felt the need to explain all the clues afterward. Imo the best thing about a good plot twists is noticing the signs on a second reading.

The Mortal Glass being the lake was too obvious, though. I wasn't spoiled about that but I figured it pretty much as the lake was introduced. Like, you can't tell me that no shadohunter other than Hodge has ever thought:
"That magic lake that the angel came from... the same magic lake that makes Shadowhunters delirious... the same magic lake that is called The Mirror of dream... maybe it is the Mortal Mirror"
The art of the angel exiting Lake Lyn is literally painted on every flat surface in Shadowhunter homes and Institutes. Unless all Shadowhunters have the collected intelligence of Clary and Jace, then someone should have figured it out by now.

This thing aside, I believe City of Glass is a definite improvement on the previous books and it is a fun read. I will probably carry on with TSC after it and I hope for the quality to improve a bit more.

So glad I re-read this before reading City of Fallen Angels. There is just so much that happens in this book! Although this is the one that always reminds me of Harry Potter...with the fighting, the spies/followers, "Lord Valentine," etc. But still fantastic!
