This was a fun quick read.
I picked up this book solely based on the title and the fact that chocolate chip cookies are my favorite.

I hardly ever write reviews…but I hated this book. I wanted to know the ending but it was painful to get there. Hannah is a terrible person with terrible opinions. I am so glad it’s finally over and will not be reading anything else by this author.

I don’t know why people are giving this book such scathing reviews. As far as cozy mystery genre goes this is pretty standard, and even pretty good. With cozies you have to suspend belief sometimes, like why the heroine is never in debt and homeless due to the fact that their careers are often silly. And how they have an in on every murder investigation and access to police records, etc.
What I liked: The actual plot and mystery, breadcrumbs, etc. The way Hannah is not a sniveling pushover martyr of a woman like some other cozy heroines. I’m excited to watch the rest of the Hallmark movies (accidentally watched the Christmas one without realizing what it was).
What I didn’t like: How dated the story is. The Overbearing Mother trope is so tired. Hannah is “not like other women” because she doesn’t wear makeup. Everybody acts like they are late 30’s not late 20’s. The obsession with marriage, and the sister getting married at 18. The fatphobic comments. A couple plot holes… I’m still trying to figure out what the point was with those compromising photos that the dentist took? Why it was mentioned that the one girl never revealed who her baby’s father was? Maybe these will get addressed later??
I plan to read the next few because they are free on Audible, but if I don’t grow to love them I will stop.

Maybe the author's horror is better. This was pretty horrible. Actually seems to take place in the mid 1980's in an idyllic style town where a cookie maker can have a flourishing business, be a bad ass snooper and even take on physical challenges like she does it all the time. A cookie maker. Meanwhile the cop who wants to be detective is asking her for detection advice, giving her information about the investigation and complimenting her when she puts herself in danger and messes with evidence. NOPE. Can't. Just can't. This did NOT age well.
Terrible. The only reason I finished it was because it was already on my Kindle and I was on a 12 hour car ride.
