I like the book/series (I'm on book 7 now) but the inherent misogyny in the series is appalling. I keep checking the publication dates because at points all the kids in shop class are boys, all the kids in home ec are girls, and it even refers to an "expectant fathers" waiting room at a hospital - that's not a thing, hasn't been in several decades. Expectant fathers are in the labor & delivery room.
One of the characters is a realtor and, as a realtor, the way she is portrayed as manipulative and "learned that at real estate school" is simply irritating.
"Dating" is antiquated too, to the point where it irritated me sometimes.
Tl;dr if you can get past the anachronistic social things, the murder mystery parts are pretty good.

Obnoxious main character who thinks she's better than/knows more than everyone else.
DNF at about 20%. Hannah is alternately acting superior to everyone else and also TSTL. And how in the world is a cookie-only bakery in a small town supporting both Hannah and an assistant? Especially when she gives dozens away for free each day. Life is too short to spend any more time reading this. It's a waste of a hoopla credit.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder follows Hannah, a local bakery owner as she and a local police officer attempt to solve the murder of a local deliveryman.
Honestly, I am kind of at a loss of words with this book. I like cozy mysteries in general, even if I find them to be kind of predictable, but this one held many issues. The way Fluke described both people who had trauma and people who are not traditionally beautiful made this a hard read. It feels as though Fluke herself is so far detatched from the younger generation that it was meant for the boomer audience. In the word choice, toxic body image issues, and handling of domestic violence this felt like a how not to handle bad situations book.
Not to mention that the main character seems to get away with illegal acts simply because she is pretty, single, and friends with local law enforcement.
Overall, left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not be continuing with Fluke's work.

Fluke’s cozies often cross the circulation desk at my library. Her covers are memorable. Even some coworkers today were talking about them as the “dessert murder mysteries”. I have to admit, cozy mysteries are not really my thing. I’m on and off with the mystery/suspense subgenres as a whole. However, recently I’ve been looking for some light reads. Things that were so fluffy my depression couldn’t touch it. And boy did this do the trick. For what it is and what I expected, a 4 is a good rating. But I plan to keep reading this fluff. It’s nice and easy. The mystery wasn’t bad, honestly I didn’t figure it out, although I wasn’t really trying that hard. I just kind of sat back for the ride. A coworker called these Murder, She Wrote if Jessica Fletcher were a baker. I agree for the most part. I find I like Jessica Fletcher a bit better but again I can’t really say to much bad about it. It’s fluffy and nice.
