I am a huge Ann Cleeves fan, and an even bigger 'Vera' fan. Long live Brenda Blethyn. 'The Rising Tide' didn't disappoint. As usual, this 'Vera' story is an easy, intelligent read. It's a gripping, well-paced story. Full of great characters, a great plot and with some very sad parts to this story. I couldn't put it down

Another excellent Vera book from Ann Cleeves! With most of the main  players being late middle age, friends from high school, it brought out a more reflective side to Vera.

The last few chapters were intense with the unexpected attack on Holly leading to her death. Seeing Vera grieve for her DC is the most vulnerable we’ve ever seen her.

Highly recommend!
