Had read for class, it was an easy read. Has a lot of hidden meanings that could get lost in reading.

The lush and sensuous imagery in this poem seems decidedly un-Victorian! This edition with Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s paintings and an afterword by [a:Joyce Carol Oates|3524|Joyce Carol Oates|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1454307466p2/3524.jpg] is quite beautiful.

Really enjoyable work. I intend on looking at it through a more critical eye next I pick it up, because it is imagistically and thematicallly rich. This collection of poems is really about Passion, both emotional and biblical. Really excellent read, as it works through these ideas while still being poetically playful.

We must not look at goblin men,
We must not buy their fruits,
Who knows upon what soil they feed
Their hungry, thirsty roots?

A cautionary tale for fairytale maidens in a goblin infested world. I, for one, will never look at a peach the same way again.

Just, whatever you do in life, don't eat the bloody fruit.

Read the whole thing in one sitting - I wasn't sure how long it was going to be but it's about the size of a short story. At first I was going to read it silently, but as I got into it, I found myself muttering the words aloud because they were so beautiful.
