Really digged this translation. Hilarious. Not enough death, tho.
I mean, on one hand, it's ANNE CARSON, so it was like lightning. On the other hand she didn't rip my heart out and stomp on it like her other works. Could be just me.
I love Classical Greek tragedies, and Anne Carson's translation never disappoints. This book was beautiful, emotional and truly a fantastic example of a translator's efforts to make ancient texts modern. Carson understands the Greek emotion that transcends language barriers, which makes her translation efforts feel solid, correct and honest to the original text. Her prefaces and forwards to each play are beautiful; I love to hear her personal take-aways from her study of the texts. Her language is beautifully poetic. This is a classic, a must-read for all fans of Carson's work.
