Interesting plot & a bloody good plot twist

This book was a great combination of sci-fi and psychological thriller. The book kept me guessing until the end what happened to the real Abby and what the robotic Abby would do with the knowledge. I really enjoyed this book! Recommend it!

I listened to the audiobook when I should have read a physical book.

The concept of the plot was interesting: human minds in AI bodies. The only part I disliked was how the author seemed to be comparing autism to roboticism. Came off weird to me.

The 3.74 star average is spot on. The book was interesting in a futuristic/ engineering type aspect. There were a fair amount of surprises in the book. It was good, not great.

J.P. Delaney's The Perfect Wife turned the now-familiar stereotypes of the family/woman's thriller on its head and I loved it for that. The integration of technology and philosophical ideas of what constitutes humanity or a soul made for a fascinating read.

As with Delaney's earlier novel, The Girl Before, the pacing is fast and the writing is seamless. The mystery pulled me in and kept me entertained, especially with the dual narrative perspective. Part of what I loved about this book as well were the side plots and complications: Delaney's description of Tim and Abbie's son Danny and his Childhood disintegrative disorder as well as the attempts to treat or manage his autism were fascinating and added an additional layer of empathy and complexity to the family relationship.

The ending was okay: it was satisfying, but fell into the trope of a barrage of plot-twists raining down one after the other. I like the moral ambiguity and questions raised by some of the plot twists, but because they came so fast and furious, they were a little forgettable.

This was an excellent psychological thriller. I am glad the description was vague. If it had revealed the premise behind the story I would not have read the book. I would have assumed it would be too sci-fi for me. J.P. did an excellent job with character development making the story believable and intriguing.

This was a book I could not put down until I finished it. Very well written and a fast read.

I don’t usually read the acknowledgments. I am glad I did this time. J.P. explains his personal experience with autism. He also tells us that ABA is a real technique used for autism. This was a very enlightening and thought-provoking book.

This was the first book I have read by JP Delaney. I plan to read JP’s The Girl Before next. I really enjoyed his writing style and creative storyline.

I received this galley from NetGalley.
