Mrs. Everything

This book was extremely powerful and covered so many important topics such as same sex relationships in the 60-90's, sexual assault and abuse, family disfunction, losing a parent, and divorce. It was the first book I've read by Jennifer Weiner and was a lovely story that chronicled the struggles of two sisters, Jo and Bethie, and how their lives and their upbringing affected them throughout their entire lives. It was really interesting to see how each event appeared to have an exact reaction and everything was pretty cut and dry when it came to reading, which I appreciate. It did take me a little longer than usual to get through than other books, but I would say it's worth the read and puts things into perspective, especially when you've never had to deal with these issues being a millennial where life is easier than the generations before us.

I wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. I didn't buy some of the major decisions made by certain characters. I was particularly disappointed with the treatment of Jo.

this would have been 5 stars but it dragged a little bit too much in the last 1/4 for my liking. but i’ll be damned if this book didn’t break my heart about 5 times over.

I thought I'd gotten past the point where I have to explain why I don't have kids, but a new job means new people who want me to justify my purpose in life. This amazing novel shows us how far we've come in other ways and how much more we have to change.

Not the normal beach lit Weiner I was expecting. Really had a hard time getting into this one. Maybe it was the time period (the 60s/70s are two of my least favorite decades) or maybe it was the characters I never really identified with or even... liked. There was enough story to keep me interested, but Mrs. Everything was NOT everything for me! (although it was everything but the kitchen sink on addressing hot bed topics!)

Really enjoyed this book.

My feelings about this book are...medium. I enjoyed it enough to keep reading, but not enough that I minded putting it down. The characters were likable enough but not compelling. The storyline raised some big issues but kept them at arm's length. There's great material here but it never got fully engaged.

It felt like the author was trying too hard. I didn't dislike it, but it could have been so much more.

I really enjoyed this book, and you will probably cry a bit at the end (I know I did.). Richly developed characters, very real family stories. The book left me wanting more -- wanting to know what's happening next with the entire family.
