This was a well put together group of Fairy tales retold in an understandable manner. I did just expect a bit more from it - a new spin or something. So an easy enjoyable read but needs something to eleveate its rating

The best parts of this book are Philip Pullman's introduction and individual tale commentary. I wish he would have put more of his own flavor into each story because it was quite clearly improved when he did.
I read this book incredibly slowly because each story is basically the same and it was hard to get through more than a few at a time due to boredom. Fifty stories is forty too many and incredibly tedious.

Very good. My favourite thing about this book was the commentary about each tale which I found really interesting. It was easy to read and I have to say some of the lesser known fairy tales (that I'd never heard before) were absolutely beautiful!
A very nice book to dip in and out if when I didn’t have the energy for novels, especially during the exam period. I enjoyed Pullman’s authorial voice throughout the tales and appreciated the explanations of the tales (and tale types) at the end of each story
A lovely collection of folk tales from Grimm Brothers. Although I already knew some of them, it was great to read some new as well.
Loved re-reading these old classic fairy tales. Here they are told sharply and clearly which is one thing I really appreciates.

A lovely collection of Grimm fairy tales in their original and murdery glory. Not a huge amount to say about this book except that I enjoyed revisiting familiar tales and reading some new ones! An excellent collection.
