I'm just loving the magic and wonder and hope in these books. The writing and art remind me of Roald Dahl. These are perfect to read to kids at Christmas.

Each year in December we pick a book to read together as a family, and this book did not disappoint! Lots of Christmas cheer mixed with Victorian London (!) and a bit of a mystery too… lovely!

As I was reading this I felt that it really was a book to be read to someone. It had a rhythm to it that lent itself to performance. It seemed 'younger' than Matt Haig's earlier Christmas book, 'A Boy Called Christmas'. Enjoyed the characters, although a lot of the new ones were a bit two dimensional. Lots of repetition of the hope/magic theme in final chapters. Lots. Despite that, an uplifting story for the younger reader.

This book is just as magical as the bright red cover!

It's not even snowy December. Yet I picked up this Christmas book because I was looking for some easy and first-pace read to get out of my reading slump! I am glad I read this book! This book is full of hopes and dreams! It will make you believe in magic! Maybe not real magic where there is an Elfhelm and the elves make Christmas presents for the children which are delivered by Father Christmas, but the magic which happens when you want something heartedly and works really hard for it.

This is a story of a little girl, Amelia who believes in magic. She gives up on her hopes when her mother dies and she finds herself at the worst workhouse in London which is run by the nightmarish Mr. Creeper who is a mischievous human being. Mr. Creeper makes Amelia give up her cat, her only friend captain Soot when he takes her to the workhorse. Guess who owns the cat when Amelia gives up on him! Okay, it's Charles Dickens! My heart skips a beat by the appearance of my favorite writer! And the surprise doesn't end here! Queen Victoria herself makes an unexpected entry! In this book, you'll get to know how Father Christmas meets Mary and fall in love with each other. Also, you will see how Father Christmas saves Christmas with the help of Amelia's hope!

I came to know [a: Matt Haig|76360|Matt Haig|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1296764418p2/76360.jpg] through his autobiography [b: Reasons to Stay Alive|23363874|Reasons to Stay Alive|Matt Haig|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1418674667s/23363874.jpg|42923140]. The way he dealt with depression was truly inspiring. No wonder he would write books for children full of hope and magic!
