I'm glad that I've finally finished this book.

I tried to get through it last Christmas, but the plight this child goes through during a good chunk of the story was just too much on top of what was already shaping up to be a miserable Christmas. I just couldn't fight through fictional sadness when real life was more depressing.

But this year, I started it earlier. Things are better and this story wound up being so much better than I remembered it being. The writing was great, the whole story was funny at the right times and emotionally mature for a children's book, and I loved the whole thing.

Such a fun read to get you in the Christmas mood!

Another lovely kids book from Matt Haig. I read this the same week as I had to put one of my cats to sleep and it was so needed. A story about believing in goodness overcoming adversity such a sweet book. I have to admit I cried during certain parts but i'm just going to put that down to my emotions being slightly raw. Cuddle your animals extra tight and know if you have goodness in your heart everything will be ok

this was so much fun to read! all the characters were whimsical and fun, and they made you laugh. the story itself is so funny and different. I also loved the peak of the story, I love action-packed scene!

I certainly liked this continuation of Father Christmas's story, but I'm not sure if I liked it as much as the first installment in the series. It was neat having the two narratives (Father Christmas and Amelia) and I also liked that Haig added in a bit of romance for Father Christmas and Mary. I just really didn't enjoy the whole Troll narrative, particularly as the ending of the story. 3/5 for lots of Christmas spirit, world building, adventure, and special appearances by Queen Victoria and Charles Dickens.

Such a fun read it is! Funny and heartwarming!
