A cute little book with really fun illustrations. Nevertheless it left me with an unpleasant feeling deep down. Why? I‘m not quite sure. Maybe it’s the heteronormative Insta-Love of Santa Clause of all people. Also: if you incorporate Charles Dickens in your book, make use of him and don‘t treat him like boring and clichéed Christmas decoration. What a waste of a good idea.

Real rating: 3.5

This was such a fun and festive read! I listened to a little bit of the audio book each day and it was perfect for this time of year. The story and characters remind me of reading Roald Dahl as a child.

I do think I would have preferred just the one storyline involving Amelia rather than the second storyline involving trolls but it was enjoyable all the same.

Not read - passed on

Very magical, even better than the previous one 4.5 stars!

Considering that I haven’t read a book that was not for my age range in quit some time this was a fun quick read.

However I feel like it was a bit of a basic story. However this was made up to me because I liked the charters. (My favourite was captain Soot.)

I liked that the story was fast paste and easy to read. (But it will obviously be easy to read it’s for a younger demographic.)

But I do have some questions. Number one Amelia is a chimney Sweep. I swear back then woman weren’t even aloud to work. Also should Amelia be able to read? Because I swear back then you could only go to school if you could afford it and I don’t think Amelias family would be able to.

But anyway even though I do have questions I overall still enjoyed this. Simply because it’s a Christmas children’s story (What’s not to like?) It makes me remember when I was younger and always tried (but failed) to stay up on Christmas Eve night and try and spot Santa claws and his reindeer in the sky.

I honestly liked this more than I was expecting and if anything I’m more disappointed I didn’t read it sooner. My mum bought me this book about two years ago for Christmas and I’ve only just bothered to pick it up and read it. So I’m just disappointed in myself for that. But Matt Haig seems to be a good children’s author and maybe are read his other books in the future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️- 3 Stars

I think I loved this second instalment in the Christmas series even better than the first one.

We have a dual perspective and we are in Victorian England and things are not going well. Not for Amelia Wishart, nor for Father Christmas. Then things are set in motion and lives start to change.

Loved it.

Finished this in one day of being on trains for over 5 hours. I liked this one better than its prequel and I'm sure these books will become new children's classics. What I liked particularly about this one was the amount of history that was worked in: chimney sweepers, working houses, Dickens, Queen Victoria, etc. That just makes it really nice. And Matt Haig just had a delightful way of writing and telling stories. Really nice read!

This book was a pleasant Christmas read, however i didn't find it very captivating or overly full of Christmas spirit.

A brilliantly written book that will definitely get you in the festive mood. A perfect story for older children to read on their own, or just as ideal for parents to read to younger kids and mums and dads will absolutely enjoy this one too. A must have for your Christmas book collection.

Perfect read for Christmastime.
