“Life is like a chimney - you sometimes have to get through the dark before you see the light.”

Didn’t enjoy this one as much as I did [b:A Boy Called Christmas|25882558|A Boy Called Christmas (Christmas, #1)|Matt Haig|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1441267564l/25882558._SY75_.jpg|45760886].
It was still fun and cute and Christmassy. But some part where drawn out and a bit uneventful.
I did however love that [a:Matt|76360|Matt Haig|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1296764418p2/76360.jpg] gave the great mister [a:Dickens|239579|Charles Dickens|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1387078070p2/239579.jpg] such an important part to play in this story. Who better to believe in the magic that Father Christmas requires?

These are fun stories and I will most definitely read them all, repeatedly every Christmas.
I adore the Illustrations.

Father Vodol

Queen

Amelia has always believed in magic, but this year it feels like it's starting to fade. Father Christmas has a lot to worry about, with upset elves, magic levels so low his sleigh is struggling to fly and a risk that Christmas might even be cancelled! He needs Amelia as much as she needs him - can they help each other save Christmas?

Set in Victorian England, this novel starts out with quite a sombre tone to it. Amelia is having a very rough time, and has almost stopped believing in the magic of Christmas. Despite the sadness underpinning Amelia's tale, this was still a very enjoyable read. One of the reasons I love reading middle grade stories is because you know that more often than not you get a happy ending, and so can read with hope.

There are some classic historical characters in this book, such as Queen Victoria and Charles Dickens, and they are depicted in a lighthearted and amusing way. I loved hearing about them rediscovering the magic of the festive season.

All in all this was a joy to listen to. The audiobook is narrated by Carey Mulligan so is very easy to listen to, however I do think a print version with the illustrations would have added sparkle. A great book to bring me closer to the end of the year.
