Where The Dead Fall

A mixed review from me for this book, which is a thriller based in Manchester. DI Ridpath, the main character, has a lot on his plate - family problems, issues at work, a temporary transfer to be a Coroner’s Officer and ongoing treatment for cancer. The opening is really strong - he’s involved in a motorway accident and his account doesn’t match that of other witnesses. Sadly the writing just didn’t grab me and I found the dialogue a bit flat at times. It’s pacy, and the plot is decent, but this one was not for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for the review copy.

Hey, this was another really good one. Glad to finally find a series where the first two books were both good.

Pacy, interesting plot with multiple points of view to keep interesting. Perhaps because I haven’t read the first book the family dynamic and struggles didn’t grip me but the main storyline definitely did.

What a gripping read. Such an intricate storyline. Ridpath is investigating a couple of deaths, one he witnessed himself. He is a great character and his mind works away at the puzzles before him. He is very determined. Loved this and highly recommended.

This is the final book in the Frieda Klein series. It is a very worthy finale and I enjoyed every word of this brilliantly constructed book. The plot was interesting and there were enough twists and turns to make me dizzy and the conclusion was satisfying.

I am bereft now that I've finished this wonderful series. I can't believe I wasn't sure whether to carry on with the series after listening to the first book. I didn't really like Frieda, but I'm so glad I persevered and Frieda gradually won me round. Such a great well drawn, totally realistic character.character. I'll miss the others too - Josef, Karlsson, Yvette, Olivia, Chloe, Reuben and Jack.

Excellent narration throughout the whole series by Beth Chalmers

So this is the second book in the DI Ridpath series and is based in Manchester. DI Ridpath has been seconded to the Coroners Office on his return from sick leave and his cancer treatment. The story follows him trying to navigate his return to work, and being sidelined from MIT to the Coroner's Office as well as his family life and how they feel about him returning to work.

On his way to meet his wife and daughter for an evening out, DI Ridpath is involved in a nasty motorway incident but seems to be the only one who saw what happened!

This is a really good story and I really like MJ's writing style. The plot is great and includes lots of red herrings and plot twists. I would definitely recommend and can't wait to read the rest of this series.
