Very different from Orphan Train, but still a good read! Very fast paced and intriguing how one incident brings out all the others.

I don't know why I read these books about adultery when it just makes my blood boil, but I do. This was well written and had good characterizations. A quick read but I actually felt that the ending wrapped up to quickly. I had no sense of the passage of time and I didn't like the "pat" ending, although all the storylines were tied up.

This is the fourth book by Christina Baker Kline that I’ve read and I must say it’s been my least favorite by far.

Alison and Charlie are friends with Claire and Ben. They met in college and the two couples later married. However, Claire and Charlie have always had feelings for each other. Fast-forward several years later and they begin to tear each other’s marriages apart and ruin the lives of their spouses and Charlie and Alison’s young children.

Claire and Charlie are so incredibly selfish throughout the book it literally made me nauseous at times

'Bird in Hand' tells the story of two couples who have been friends for years. It turns out that the relationships aren't as solid as they seem. The book was sad... I found it very difficult to like several of the main characters and the whole book was a series of unhappy events (the end was slightly uplifting). Over all, 'Bird in Hand' was a good read. It wasn't a fun book, or one I would run out and recommend... but it was worth reading. The big problem I had was that the book jacket kept playing up the 'one terrifying moment' where everything changes... Well- that moment was horrible, but it certainly wasn't the catalyst for everything else that happened.

Very dissapointing. The description seemed so dramatic but the story was boring. Characters were flat and unlikeable. I read The Orphan Train and absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to read more by the same author, but this one just didn't work for me.

I really enjoyed this novel. Although it had a depressing take on suburban marriage- actually marriage in general- it was quite hopeful in the end. Or maybe I was just hopeful!

Although I've seen some characterize this as "chick lit", or technically "hen lit"; it is so much better written than the other chick lit novels I've read this summer. I found it to be smartly written with the back story told in an interesting way.

I love when a book takes me somewhere I didn't expect. In this case, I thought this was a book about an accident. But it is really a book about marriage - it's steady joys, but more often its tiny and grand disappointments. In this story, 2 couples who are friends for years are changed when infidelity enters their quartet. Well written, nicely paced. I am interested in finding more of this author's work.
