I thoroughly enjoyed this book and, as a Scarborough native, the stories of Mike Myers' youth were particularly enjoyable. In describing his father, Mike Myers says there's no one more English than an Englishman who no longer lives in England. Apparently there's no one more Canadian than an Canadian who no longer lives in Canada. This applies to Mike Myers as he reminisces about both his native land and about his father.
The book is a nice mix of the author's story and Canada's story.

The first chapter was funny and amazingly accurate for someone who has been out of the country for so long. But then it got more and more serious and more and more politically biased. Until the last chapter may as well be called "A love letter to Justin Trudeau."

This book made me feel so patriotic for my beautiful country of Canada! It was nostalgic, informative, and of course funny! I learned so much about the history and culture of Canada from the 60's to the 80's, and it suddenly hit me how many incredible comedians are Canadian!
I've always been proud to call myself Canadian, and while I didn't always agree with Mike Myers' views, I loved hearing about his experience growing up in this country.

I was mostly bothered by the idea that Canadians needed to find their identity. This is something you do when you're away from a place. When you're in Canada, you're Canadian so don't have to think aboot it, and shouldn't have to. We have bigger fish to fry than worrying about who we are.
Otherwise, a nice light read about an ex-pat.

What a great book! What a true Canadian! I got all these warm fuzzies while reading. There were a lot of funny moments along with a few sad ones. The best parts were the little pictures of old things tons of us grew up with that are and were only found in Canada. I remember having that yellow oblong jug for the bagged milk! Lol Later on, it was used to water the house plants. I recommend this book to all Canadians and to everyone else who would like to know what it was like to grow up in Canada in the 70s and 80s.
Loved the combination of Canadian history and culture alongside Mike's own story. He's so darn genuine and always a pleasure to listen to. Also gave me lots of nostalgic moments. Look forward to hearing more from him in the future!

I am a fan of Mike Myers and used to watch him on SNL all the time as a teenager. I listened to this book while driving through the USA on my way home from Ontario - I thought it a nice touch to immerse myself in Canadiana while in the US :). The book was good, I particularly enjoyed the more biographical aspects and there were a few spots that had me laughing out loud. There was plenty of general Canadian facts or commentary that was a little slower, and had me waiting for the next story of Mike growing up in Canada. I guess I would have preferred a straight autobiography, but did enjoy the book.
