This was fairly average for a book. I enjoyed the beginning and end, even if I guessed the reveals at the end. The middle did drag and I found it difficult to read at times, but the end did make up for it.

Read for school! Really liked the theme of fact v fantasy. Characters were well thought out, if merely archetypal. My favorite plot line was the quasi romance between James Harthouse and Louisa, god Louisa is so sad, her whole story. I also liked Mrs Sparsits’ story line, she was meddling and annoying and misguided but I felt for her at the same time. Hated Bounderby. Hated Tom. Hated Gradgrind until the end. Enough said

I listened to the version with Bertie Carvel narrating. I overall really enjoyed the narration. The story itself was fine. Nothing that really stood out, but a nice background story to have on as I worked on things. Would have loved to see more of Cissy as I found her character interesting at the beginning of the story.
