i was hesitant to give this 5 stars at first, but what i wanted to take off points for isnt a reflection of the quality of the book. i love the author’s style, and how this is a queer YA novel that is actually beautiful and not cringey. I like how she developed the characters and made a realistic friend group. I think I wanted to take off points for the characters I disliked and the decisions those characters made, but they add to the story, and make it what it is. good coming of age novel for any queer kid or any queer adult looking for hope for lgbt youth

as a queer person who used to go to a catholic school and has lived my entire life in a predominantly catholic/christian country, this just hit me so hard.

relating to hannah was the best and the worst. whenever she started to pray for that feeling to go away i saw so much of myself and all my similar moments in it that i start tearing up. this book was so well-written and so hard-hitting that i was BAWLING my eyes out at the end of this.

"it's hard to love someone when loving them makes you feel ashamed of yourself" LIKE FUCKKK kelly quindlen said this is for all the queers with crushes on their best friends and religious trauma
