The Darkest of the stories thus far...
Still good! Could have done with the long bit in the underground and the "battle" afterwards, but still loving supernatural Sherlock!
Captivating
Excellent novel. I have already enjoyed its predecessors and will continue on as long as I can. Jackaby is mysterious as he is alluring.

its really interesting to see the overall story coming together!! i love jenny and abigail so much
I really enjoyed this installment of the Jackaby series! It wasn't my favorite, but it carried a new level of urgency and seriousness we haven't seen yet in these books.
I really liked how we began to find out more about Jackaby's past and we saw some vulnerability in him. I love his character, and seeing a few cracks in his armor finally made him seem more human.
Also, Rook really stepped it up and took charge throughout multiple parts and I really appreciated that. She is so strong yet sometimes Jackaby treats her like she's so fragile.
Jenny's story development was not as exciting as I would have hoped but by the end of the book, it was really amazing to see how far she had come.
The only thing I didn't like was how many characters there were to keep track of. Jackaby would mention someone and I would be thinking, "I know he's important, but who is he again?" It felt like so many names were thrown at me all at once and it was hard to keep track of who was who. But by the end of the book I understood the roles of different people (for the most part).
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the direction it took the series in. It was more action-packed and much darker than the previous books, yet the humor still shined. I guess now I wait for the fourth one...

I received a free preview of Ghostly Echoes from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I immensely enjoyed Ghostly Echoes' predecessors Jackaby and Beastly Bones. With that being said, after reading only the first six chapters of book three, I'm completely and totally hooked. We finally get to dive into Jenny's story a lot more all while tying in a new supernatural-esque mystery for Abigail and Jackaby to tackle. Basically, Ghostly Echoes' investigates Jenny the resident ghost's death and her fiancee's decade-ago disappearance. Right from the start there's action, mystery, and usual shenanigans from Jackaby. The first few chapters really set up a fast paced, enthralling mystery. I can't wait to get to dive further into the third installment of the Jackaby series, which will arguably be the best yet.
4/5 Stars so far. More to come after a full read.

Similar to the second novel, but less able to stand alone. I love the world and the characters, but the sequels, however imaginative, cannot compare to the first book. The world is more fleshed out, the characters better established - understanding Jackaby is not as unexpected as meeting him for the first time.
Abigail Rook is a pretty good detective now. While she still can't see the things her employer Jackaby sees, she does notice the ordinary things that help propel their investigation forward. This time Jenny is finally ready to discover who killed her, and why she was killed, so the gang go about beginning to solve her murder and finding out who the pale-faced man is, and what he wants.
I loved this book a lot. I really like the wat that William Ritter weaves in fantasy elements and mythology to make the mysteries more interesting. I also like Abigail getting to really be the hero a lot in this volume as there are things that she can do that Jackaby can't and her bravery and willingness make her an invaluable member of their investigative team. I also like how much more depth we get for Jenny's character. The author really makes you care for her in this book, whereas in the first two she is kind of just there so that Abigail has someone to talk to about how weird Jackaby and sort out small details of the case.
I gave this volume four stars instead of five because I did love the last third of the book and it was really exciting but the first two thirds were really slow and I almost gave up on the book (not intentionally, I just wasn't picking it up as much as the first two.)
