I loved this one, too! This one was more gothic paranormal with some strong sci-fi leanings. While my steampunk heart would have relished a bit more on that side, it was still a really solid plot, and we see more of Jenny, which is great. The adventure also thickens in this one. I love how the exposition is moving.
So many threads come together in this third installment, and each book just gets better and better!
4.25*
What is this!!! you decide to finish the third book in a cliffhanger?? I need more!!! The first two books might have been a but lacking but this one had it all!! It still had more than one in inconsistency but still yes!! give me more of this!!!
The writing was on point again, easy to read and entertaining. The description even if sometimes had more flourishes than I'd liked was still there, perfect.
Like I said before, from moment one you were invested in the story because the plot of this books had been building up from book 1, at least that's what I hoped!!Storywise this was packed. We got more evolution in our characters, we got to learn more about the house and the story that apparently rolls around those people and the town in itself. We especially got a lot of backstory about the characters and the world in itself. While I was reading I started remembering passages from Beautiful Creatures and especially TMI with all of that seelie/unseelie nonsense, which still I don't have overly clear in my head. It was interesting, charming, not as funny as previous ones because this one was darker, addictive and a great read!
Characterwise we got some new ugly blood mixed in with some interesting personalities.
Miss Rook didn't let down, she was the total heroine and badass although a bit too generous and selfless. Being the only sane and completely human one of that mini bunch of hers played out to be key of course.
I got to see an evolution on Mr Jackaby that I liked. I can say now that I like him, it's taken him 3 books but he finally opened up and left that Sherlock behaviour a bit behind (although is still part of his personality) and really showed his true colors which made me appreciate him in other light.
We got to meet Jenny, and I mean get to really know her and of her and that wasn't disappointing at all! she finally was able to gain control of herself and her surroundings and surprised us, at least me, more than one! Chapeau!!
I loved to see Charlie back in action although I am still not completely OK with the way the writer is treating this characters... he's using him merely as decorative backdrop mostly and I want more.
I completely recommend this one! I wasn't such a huge fan of the first two, but this one is slightly different and I cannot wait to read what I think will be the conclusion of this series!

I lucked out and won a copy of Ghostly Echoes (Jackaby #3) through the Goodreads Giveaway Program! Thanks very much!
Jenny Cavanaugh, the ghost who calls 926 Auger Lane home alongside Detective R.F. Jackaby and his assistant Abigail Rook, has finally made the decision to enlist her lodgers to investigate a ten year old case - her own murder. To begin, they'll have to start by searching for Howard Carson, Jenny's fiancé, who disappeared on the same night that she was murdered. However, Jackaby and Miss Rook realize that Jenny's case isn't so cold after all, when they get called in to investigate a new murder that closely mirrors the circumstances of Jenny's own death, and it looks like the killer may be much more dangerous than they would have expected.
William Ritter's Jackaby series has quickly become a favorite series and this third installment is absolutely wonderful. In fact, this darkest novel of the three is actually my favorite of the three, and I'm dying for the next book! In this one, we get to revisit some favorite characters, learn more about the main trio's past and watch them continue to grow, a fascinating mystery that reveals much while bringing up more pressing questions, and plenty of supernatural action with just the right dose of humor. There are so many things to like about this novel because it truly has a little something for everyone. It's historical fiction, a mystery, and a fantasy, plus it features an intriguing new LGBTQ character. There are plenty of supernatural creatures, some of which you might be more familiar with than others. I'm also pleased to see that it also delves into both Irish and Greek mythology in some stunning ways.
As brilliant as the author is a crafting the world of New Fiddleham and its surroundings, he is best at creating and developing his cast of characters. Jackaby, Abigail, and Jenny are some of the most memorable and entertaining characters I've had the chance to get to know in awhile and they each have their own moments to shine in this newest installment - and each have come a long way over the course of the series. That being said each has endlessly quotable dialog - banter equally balancing sass, snark, and humor. Unfortunately, I won't be quoting any here since there may very well be changes between now and its final release on August 23rd.
Overall, Ghostly Echoes (Jackaby #3) by William Ritter is easily one of my favorite reads of 2016. If you haven't started this awesome series yet, I can't recommend it enough, especially if you are a fan of Sherlock, Doctor Who, Supernatural, and Grimm. I absolutely can't wait until the release of the fourth novel in Ritter's Jackaby series!

Another wonderful excursion into the world of Jackaby. This time, Jackaby and Abigail are on the hunt for the killer of their ghostly companion, Jennifer Cavanaugh. This is a cold case, having happened ten years previous, and involves missing scientists, an explosion, and women and men being murdered by an unknown suspect (or two).
The mysterious monster that evaded capture in Beastly Bones has also returned. Are the monster and Jenny's murder connected? Who is pulling the strings in the background, making Jackaby chase shadows?
Another well plotted and well written turn, with several moments where I cheered loudly for our heroes. As well as, moments where I gripped the edge of my seat, hoping that our duo would find the answers or make it out of a tricky situation in tact...

I thought this was already the last book so I didn't realize I already reached the end when I read the last part. This is my favorite book in the series so far!
"My brick, My house, My whole world." Book three of the Jackaby series feels like a finely woven culmination of its predecessors - characters become flesh and bone - most especially the ghostly Jenny Cavanaugh (whom I adored); the world building goes deeper and the big bad begins to really haunt the narrative. Jenny definitely surpassed Abigail in my BFF estimation.
