I'm a little stuck between 3.75 stars and 4 stars. I did love it, and it was an addictive (was going to say enjoyed it, but for some scenes I don't think enjoyed is the right world). I also know that it is a dark romance, but I was not expecting some of those scenes. Like....wowwwwwwwwwwwww

Kinda sad I read the next book already as it made this one the last in the series and honestly... The next one is better.
It's the Hunchback of Notre Dame which is the story I'm also least familiar with but it really doesn't help that there's so many extra characters who I don't think are in the original story.
I get it. I get it. The called Quasimodo "a monster" and then Cade is just another kind of monster but still. This one didn't hit as hard as the others.

We’re all sinners now, Father Cade
“There’s darkness in us all, petite pécheresse. We just have to learn to control it.” He presses a kiss to the top of my head. “I can help you with that.”
⬆️ This quote is a great way to summarize this book. This book definitely has the slowest slow burn of the series and it was perfect. Cade was so dark and mysterious and I live for it. Amaya was so strong and she really didn’t know it. The sexual tension between Cade and Amaya was so beautifully written. I loved Quinten and Dalia and I was so happy Amaya had them. This book is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. Emily just know how to write the perfect villains to fall in love with.

interesting
This was my first priest dark romance, and I liked it. It wasn’t as good as a romantasy like Scarred, or even Twisted to me. But this was really good. Two broken people meet and stay broken but somehow make those broken pieces fit

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Another good book in the series, although I did struggle to get into this one, which is a The Hunchback of Notre Dame reimagining. I can’t work out if it was my catholic upbringing, or my hatred of Frollo from the Disney movies, but it took me over 50% of the book to appreciate Cade and his character.
The book brings the perfect mix of things together for an exciting dark romance story: forbidden attraction, stalking, violence & murder.
The characters were all really well written; even those you’ll hate. I especially like how Quasimodo was brought into the book as Amaya’s little brother Quinten.
I also appreciated the small Easter eggs dropped into the story which tie back to Victor Hugo’s novel.
