Mystery of the Ivory Charm by Carolyn Keene

Frankly, I couldn't stand this "mystery." It was pretty much solved in the second chapter, but they had to wait for the dude to arrive from out of town. The half-hearted try at including the Indian culture was mostly just insulting, and completely unrecognizable. The villains were without real motivation, and the meditative trances that provided Nancy with most of her clues were unexplained. The only one so far worse than this book, was The Sign of the Twisted Candles. I only give a second star because it's in this beloved series, but I wouldn't recommend to any but those who intend to read all of the Nancy Drew mysteries (like me).

You can tell how old this book is based on the racist overtones. I enjoyed it well enough in elementary school when I went through all the Nancy Drew books in the library and didn't know better, but I know better now. All I can do is laugh.

I owned this one when I was growing up and always wanted that elephant necklace. The plot is exciting while not quite as ridiculous as some other NDs.
