spice tripled. action slowed down a beat, which made it a bit more difficult to stay focused on, but WOW THAT ENDING.

we get even more world building in this one — we get to see casia explore the elven realms in a desperate, critical search for allies in a two-pronged, seemingly impossible war. MORE NEW CHARACTERS. MORE SPICE. (i am well and truly in love with elander. the chapter outside of the palace in the gardens? goodbye. RIP me. please, solatis, when i die, let me be reborn as his mate, thank you)

this one took me a little more time to get through, because the politicking and scheming for allies was a bit dense and long-winded, but the ending was so wild that it had me sending panic-texts to loved ones in the middle of the night.

excellent. just so good. please read this series if you even remotely like the fantasy genre! it’s so, so worth it if you’re in the mood for a fun, magic-y adventure!*

*super fast informercial side effects voice some pain and anxiety included but like it’s fine you’ll probably be fine i promise just read it thank u bye

Every book keeps getting better, the magic system is unlike any other and I’m obsessed with meeting new gods / characters every book. Complicated but not overly complicated that you don’t understand what is going on

So this book was a lot of building up to things that either didn't happen or were ultimately useless in the end.

We team up with the elven king only for him to die in the next chapter and get the help of only his most loyal soldiers.

We find out Laurent is part of the elven royal family, but this goes nowhere as well just flee. Is he going to try and take the throne? I was sure that was gonna be a plot point when we discovered it.

Elander dies only to come back to life again 2 chapters later, of course. (Is this explained? How did he come back?)

Cas fights through the whole book to not give in to the death god mark only for it to be removed with no trouble in the last few chapters and Varen, the king famed for his hatred of magic, becomes the death god instead.

Btw how the hell is Varen still alive??? This man should have died so many times now

Read the entire book in one sitting. It had me on the edge of my seat, it had me laughing and awing. I loved all the new characters, loved the magic, loved the action. Loved the storylines and character development for Casia and Elander.

4.5/5 stars. This series is getting better and better ✨
