Sigh. Let me start with: I’m so happy so many people love this book and this series. The author had a very detailed way of writing that paints everything in very clear detail. Unfortunately, I just don’t think how the story has progressed thus far is for me (book 2 & 3 really).

Unpopular opinion: Why are so many romance/ fantasy series being stretched out into 4-5+ books?! It’s created this string of books that are incredibly lengthy (400-500+ pages) and so little story progression. It’s frustrating and exhausting. It would be one thing if a series is long but the story requires it (like Ilona Andrews, Elise Kova, K.F Breene, etc), it’s another when it truly doesn’t feel warranted.

The first book in this series was so good, it sucked me in right away. I started the second with so much excitement, only to sit there and slog through so much for so little. The third book is much of the same, if not worse, to the point I stopped paying attention. Sadly, I doubt I’ll read the rest of the series.

4.25⭐️ This was an intense, highly stressful, but addictive third book in the Shadows and Crowns series. The relationships from romantic to friendship are all so well-written. I also just can't get over the incredible anxiety representation. I have never seen that so accurately done in a fantasy series before. I find myself relating so much more to the main character because of this element. I'm dying for book 4, but it doesn't come out until May!!!! How will I wait that long?
