I'm really enjoying how this series is progressing so far and I do think that each book in the series gets better and better. I'm a sucker for a good found family in a fantasy book so I'm happy that it feels like Casia's friends are playing a bit of a more active role in the story rather than serving as only background characters. I feel like a lot of this book focuses on Casia building alliances and trying to navigate who to trust in order to stand against her brother. I'm glad that as far as their romantic relationship goes, that Elander and Cas seem at a good place (even if things are complicated with regards to their powers). I feel like so far this fantasy series has been pretty decent and I don't have any major complaints. I don't think there's been anything that really sets it apart from other fantasy series that I've read to make it compete with my favorites but I am having a good time reading it. I'm also glad that it's a completed series at the time that I'm reading it because that means I can go straight into the next book when I'm finished and not have to worry about any cliffhangers.

The first book was great, but by the second I was already barely hanging out. I personally have grown to like all the side characters more than the main. Especially Zev and Laurent. But to me it was just dragging on. I feel like there's a lot of potential too this story and the next 2 books may be great but it's not enough to make me continue the series at this time. If I ever do decide to pick it back I would 100% update my review from here though.

I’m still interested in what’s happening and what’s to come in the next books… but it’s really dragging for me. Normally I’d finish a book like this 2-3 days, this took me 6… I felt I had to convince myself to keep going.
