Deathmaker was a good read. I've always loved Tolemek as a character and on the apparent 3rd read of this story, I still love it. I have exactly 0 memory of reading it in 2017 lol what a fun time to have memory problems right?!

Anyway. Tolemek is an evil scientist who was responsible for the deaths of too many in Iskandia

and obviously that's why I love him lmfao I have a type. Tragic backstory, morally gray, murderer. . .clearly book boyfriend material.

I also love how our main heroine isn't very tall. . .like barely 5'1" lol or as I like to say " 5'1" on a good day" lol idk why, but I love it when the MC is short. I know, it's really weird.

There are some twists and turns that I did see coming and not because I've read it before. I couldn't remember anything going into it, except that I liked it and that Tolemek is amazing. It's kind of sad TBH. This review shouldn't be about how I can't remember anything ~~considering that I'm 28 I shouldn't have this problem~~ but that's how it ended up lol.

TO SUM UP. Good book. Recommend. Have a nice day!

Another great story from LB.

I must admit I was surprised that Lindsay killed off Cas in BOTBE because she seemed like a great character - and now we know she didn't.

Cas has been captured by the enemy who thinks it would be fun to put her in the same cell as the mad scientist known as Deathmaker. Although they don't trust each other and are bitter enemies Cas and Tolemek band together to escape.

Cas is another great strong woman and Tolemek is another great inventor, together they battle evil pirates in the sky and Cas is reunited with Zirkander.

Loved it.

I really enjoyed the character of Ahn (I know her name is Cas but I think of her as Ahn). She reminded me a little of Amaranthe from the Emperor's Edge series. I loved how competent and determined to escape she is. I also found her back story and upbringing added a nice dimension. I found our hero Tolemek less engaging. Can't really put my finger I why and I do feel sorry for him regarding the events in his life I just couldn't engage with him for some reason. And then there was the relationship between Ahn & Tolemek. The romance just seemed to sudden and unbelievable to me. I think by the end of this book Tolemek had earned her trust and there was definitely some attraction and I can totally see Tolemek falling for her, I just found her devotion to him less believable. I think it would have worked better if they didn't actually get into a relationship until later in the series.

I enjoyed this book more than the first. Probably because of the addition of pirates and well, I'm a sucker for pirates. I'll be continuing with the third book in the series.
