Don't read my review. Don't waste your time.
Seriously. Just stop, go to Amazon or your favorite indy bookstore and buy this. In hardcover. Read it yourself, lovingly tagging your favorite letters (there will be many, for every emotion available to you). Then, place the book in your guest room. Or send to a loved one. Or both. But you must read this, then share it. You must.
Is your heart broken? Read Rebecca West's letter to H.G. Wells. "You once found my willingness to love you a beautiful and courageous thing."
Feeling lost? Read E.B. White to Mr. Nadeau. "Hang onto your hat. Hang onto your hope. And wind the clock, for tomorrow is another day." Or Hunter S. Thompson to Hume Logan. "And indeed, that is the questions: whether to float with the tide, or to swim for a goal."
Feeling snarky? Read Sol LeWitt to Eva Hesse. (too long to quote, but epic. Letter #33) Or my personal favorite, "I have not shot her yet" Dorothy Parker to Seward Collins (Letter #118)
This. This is a work of art. As as Oscar Wilde said to Bernulf Clegg (Letter #123), "A work of art is useless as a flower is useless. A flower blossoms for its own joy."
Why are you still here? Go buy the book.

Spaudinimas irgi super. Rekomenduoju pirkti.
Tik man skaityti pusėtinai suėjo. Gal tiesiog ne tas stilius :))

A collection of interesting and or important letters, with some accompanying explanation as to why it was included.
I enjoyed dipping into this book now and again. Letters are a lost art now but this collection shows how significant correspondence can be.

This book is a treasure trove of history, entertainment and humanity. There was an incredible variety of letters, dating back to stone tablets, that revealed the inner thoughts of people who weren't much different than you and I. It was an amazing experience to see the handwriting, in full color, of famous authors, cartoonists, father's heartfelt words to their children, and more. I appreciated the context provided along with each letter to help you understand what was going on at the time it was written.
Reading it was engaging and exciting. Even my young kids were enthralled to see the letters, especially when they had heard of the person who had written it. It's as close as you can get to a time machine. And it was educational and fun to read. I couldn't have asked for a better book.

Book Reviews While on Break:
About as good as coffee table books get! The title sums things up nicely, so I wont bother explaining the book's premise.
I especially liked the letter Flannery O'Connor wrote in response to a professor of literature asking her about "A Good Man is Hard to Find". The letters collected range from curiousities (JFK's coconut message), historical treasures (Da Vinci's cover letter for a job with the Italian Military), to life-affirming wisdom (E.B. White, I'm looking at you!). There's something for everyone in this book.

[a:Shaun Usher|7135502|Shaun Usher|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1371530750p2/7135502.jpg] has collated some of the most famous letters and notes of history (think of what the alternative draft for the moon landing said in the event that it was not a success), and interspersed them with personal letters of the average men and women whose thoughts are so rarely recorded by history (think of the letter a single mother left with her baby on the steps of an English orphanage).
This is a work you will dip into again and again to read the letters that most strike a cord with you. And after you enjoy this, you will no doubt want to follow up with the second book, [b:Lists of Note|23123095|Lists of Note|Shaun Usher|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1409325539s/23123095.jpg|42671897].
