Currently working my way through this beautiful coffee table book. Will add my favourite excerpts here.
This book was so addictive. I wanted to devour it but I made myself savor it. Such a wonderful collection.
I went through every emotion whilst reading these collection of letters. It took me awhile to get through them all mostly because I wanted to savour each one. Although they are all available to read on the Letters of Note website there is just something about having them in front of you. The book has also been beautifully designed with a clear layout, which obviously adds to the experience.
I absolutely love this book! It was such a pleasure to be able to view these letters and have insight into their lives and dignity. This book is a great statement of humanity.
This compilation of letters was so interesting! Definitely check it out.
What a brilliant idea and execution! The facsimiles really bring the letters to life. Content-wise I would have perhaps preferred fewer gimmicky letters and more of the profound ones, hence the 4, not 5 stars. But absolutely recommended, and immediately inspired me to write a letter of my own--the first in years!
Fabulous book. Like primary source material you would want to do research, but selected by someone else purely for interest. Pure indulgence for history buffs. Can't wait to read volume 2!
Wow! Special, unique glimpses into the lives of over a hundred notable historical figures. I loved this!
I loved how it flip flopped from letter to letter, I got a paper cut towards the end, a battle scar.

Maybe 3.5. The content is naturally varied since it's a collection of letters, but there were quite a few religious ones (for obvious reasons). As an atheist, those didn't speak to me. Much of my grief is actually about death being the absolute end of someone. So it was a salt/wound situation for me. Not the book's fault. Some of the letters, however, were very moving and even a little comforting (looking at you here, Virginia Woolf).
